The 2007 GNCC series starts this Sunday !! Grand National Cross Country. First race is The Triton and its held in Florida. GNCC race day is split into two seperate races. There's the "morning race" and then theres the "afternoon race". The morning race starts at 10am and runs till 12 noon'ish. There are 17 classes that race the morning race, with a few select classes taking the spotlight. A few good morning classes to watch are the Women's class, all three of the Utility classes and the Super Senior class. The Afternoon race starts at 1pm and thats when the big dogs race. The Pro class and Pro-Am class race in the afternoon, they are the top two classes in the series. There are 11 classes that race the afternoon race. Morning classes usually total around 300+ racers and upwards of 450 and some of the more popular tracks. The afternoon racing class total racers is also around 300 racers. All classes run the course at the same time. Courses usually run about 10 miles long and the racers can usually get in 4 laps during a 2 hour race. This season will have Bill Ballance trying for his 8th consecutive championship title, he currently tied with Barry Hawks record of 7 straight. Ballance is racing on the factory yamaha team. Rumor has it that bill will be using a modified YFZ450 frame that has the front end narrowed and raked back. Its trick. Bill won 6 out the 13 GNCC's in 2006. Chris Borich is racing the #2 plate this year. last year he swapped wins with Ballance all year long but came up 34 points of winning the championship. Ballance's 2006 point total was 335 and Borich's total was 304. Chris won 4 out of the 13 GNCC's in 2006. Chris is racing a honda 450r this year. Honda decided to cut back GNCC sponsorships this year. Last season Chris was backed by Honda. This year, he's teamed up with Matt Smiley and East Coast Racing. Chris always seems to win the Florida race. He won it last year and the year before that. I know he's been down training in Florida for the past few weeks. He's needs to have a consistant season if he wants to beat bill ballance. Matt Smiley will be racing a Honda 450r this year. The past two years he was a factory Polaris racer and he raced on a Predator. He had two bad seasons riding on the predator. He's always a top 5 guy when he's not riding a Polaris. Look for Smiley to return to the podium alot more this year. William Yokley switch from being a factory Suzuki racer to a factory Kawaski racer. Yoke will be on a new Kawi 450 this Sunday. The GNCC ready Kawi looks so damn nice. Yokley will have the #5 plate this year. I know a few GNCC racers so I root for these next coupla guys all season.... Mike Penland. Great guy. Uber-religious, but hes cool with it. He's been racing the Utility Stock class for years and won it like 12 years in a row. The winning stopped for Mike Penland two seasons ago. The competion got alot better. The 4x4 quads got alot better. Root for good ol' mike penland. We pitted next to Mike Penland numerous times and he's really into atv racing, he's fun to watch. Mike races for team Can-am. Mike used to race for Team Kawasaki and thats when he won all his championships, ever since he switched to Can-am, its been rough for Mike P. He races on a Can-am 800 Outlander. They are awsome quads, but they're known to fall apart during the race. Can-am is the main sponsor for the '07 gncc season. Traci Cecco. Womens class champion. She's won the womens championship atleast 5 times. Traci is a factory Yamaha racer. Full factory support. Traci is local, she only lives 5 miles away. She's so damn fast its hard to beleive.... traci races in the morning race with 400 to 500 guys and she routinely beats them all. Last year she 7 "overall" wins in a row. Completly dominated the class. Her rivel is Stephanie Parton. Steph has won the women's class championship a few times. Steph races for factory Polaris and she races on an Outlaw. Boooo steph parton :yucky: Tyler Lenig. Tyler is Traci Cecco's newphew and he's good. Tyler races in the Pro-Am class. the Pro-am class is the second fastest class behind the Pro class. The top Pro-Am racers can jump up to the Pro class and be competitive. In the 2006 season, Tyler finished 2nd overall in Pro-am. Word has it he'll be racing in the Pro class for this season. We'll find out on Sunday. Tyler races a Honda 450r George Richards. George is another local racer who races all the D6 hairscrambles and XC races. George races in the Super Senior +50 class. This is actually a very fast class. The top 5 guys are as fast as any other class. Johnny Gallagher Sr won this class last year, he was unstoppable, he's also a factory Polaris rider, riding an Outlaw. George finish 4th overall in the class last year. Not bad. George races a highly modified kawasaki V-Force. George is part of the three man team that I do the 6hr and 12hr races. We won the Maxxis 12 hours of America race this year and george was fast and consistant. George raced the entire 13 race GNCC season last year. A great all around guy. Everyone root for George Richards this year !! George told me he's getting off his V-force and it going to race the new Kawasaki 450 when it comes out. Ken Robey. Utility Stock class. Races in the same class as Penland and has been beatin Mike for the past few seasons. Ken finished 3rd overall in the Ute Stock class year, Mike Penland finished 6th. Iv met KR at a few races and he's quite the character. Very comical. they call him..... Obi one Ken Robey. I hope I stirred some interest in GNCC racing... -denny

maybe she's dead ?? I think Lee woulda informed us if she kicked the bucket. maybe she joined the army and is fighting in Iraq ? she sure does love Bush and I'm talkin about our President. maybe she's banned from the site ? Its happened before... a few times. Maybe she's lost in the woods somewhere ? Burmuda Triangle ?? Maybe she got a boyfreind and is living happily ever after. Maybe the gov't didnt like something she said and they took her away to Gitmo ?? Alien abduction ?? A big ol extra long vacation perhaps ?? Maybe she's taking a really really long nap ?? Maybe she's pissed off ?? Maybe she had all her fingers cut off and now she can't use a computer keyboard ?? Maybe she didnt pay her internet bill ?? Maybe she's still outside shoveling snow ?? Its weird she would just vanish like this.... just like Helldriver vanished and that uber-religious dude "04LE" whateverthefuckhisnamewas... they just vanished too one day, with no official explanation.

on a different note... I think it might be a good idea to have an option for kids to go to school at night. I believe that some people are "morning people" and some folks are "night owls". Im much more productive during the late nights and so is my boy. We both hate to wake up at 6 am and we both enjoy staying up late hours. I'll take 3 am over 11am any day.

they're yamaha tuning forks. ya. if you unbolt the smaller dogbone linkage and rap the bigger linkage with a wrench, the linkage resonates just like a tuning fork. Its pretty cool, if you got a spare linkage, try it.

LOL that cracked me up pretty good :yelrotflmao: I searched Google for "woodsy porting" and "Woods porting" but found nothing. "Hey Denny, I see you posting more, the snow got you stuck inside? " ha, thats exactly whats going on. Iv been working alot on my latest quad build and also learned how to powder coat so i'v doing alot of that stuff. Now its just too damn cold to be in the garage and I'm running out of stuff to powdercoat. Wait till yas' all see the 250r I'm building. it might be awhile before its ready to ride tho.

Has the Banshee just outlived its time? XC/HS
Meat replied to banskie's topic in XC/Hare Scramble Forum
k, i waited awhile to give my opinion but here goes. The Banshee's time as a legitamate cross country race machine was over eight years ago, in 1999 when the 400ex came out. Even before that, the vast majority of racers still did NOT race Banshees, Banshee's were NEVER good at XC when you compare them with other quads. The 250'r was a better machine to be racing XC with ever since 1986, Banshee's never really had any success at a national level when you compare them to what the other ATV models have done. Bill Ballance raced a Banshee way way way back when he first started, but never had much success till he switched to the 250r based quads. Kim Kunle, another Pro GNCC racer was the last of the great National GNCC racers, he raced em till about the year 2001 or '02 and he's never had any success, out of the 20 Pro GNCC racers he would consistantly finish in 20th place in the PRO class, he was faster than most other guys in the other classes, but in his class, the Pro class, he was always dead last unless someone would DNF. Harescrambles, Banshee's are even worse. A harescramble race is different than a cross country race.... a harescramble course usually has a million turns, some sections of the courses are nothing but S-turns after S-turns in open fields, these tracks get deep ruts and the racing is usually very slow, with alot of shifting if your riding a Banshee. A XC race is more straight line through trails in the woods, the layout of the courses are not as compact as a harescramble race, so XC coureses cover more acreage. The Banshee is a terrible quad for harescrambles, and does better on XC courses. And on XC courses... just about every sport quad model are better than the Banshees. The GNCC series is the Cross Country Nationals and NO ONE HERE on this forum is racing thier Banshee's at a GNCC event if they are racing the series for points. The GNCC races are held all up and down the east coast, and yea you'll see one MAYBE two local guys bring out thier Banshees and race the GNCC, but no one is doing the GNCC series on a Banshee. The last guy to race the whole series on a Banshee was Mike Lucas, who a local Pa racer, and Mike did pretty good in the Open A class. But frankly there's no competition in that class and Mike switched to a YFZ450 in 2004, Mike now races in the Pro-am class which is the second fastest class behind the Pro class. I bought my Banshee frame from from Mike. If you'd attend a GNCC race, you will see 6 or 7 hundred YFZ's, TRX's, and every other sport quad and Utility racing quads.... and if you see two Banshees racing.... out of 600+ GNCC racers, you'd be lucky. GNCC races are known to have a few races that are entire mud-fests and every GNCC\XC race has atleast 2 very big mudhole sections. The Banshees are terrible in deep mudholes, they overheat easier, they don't have the 4 stroke torque in the mud, and the powerband is not mudhole freindly. At the smaller local level, you'll see more Banshees and I'll gaurentee ya that the guys racing on the Banshee's only do so because they are new to racing and\or its the only quad they own. There is NO advantage to running a Banshee in a harescramble or XC race. The 4 strokes will win everytime. Even with less experienced riders, the new 4 strokes are faster on a XC course. The ATV racing scene is VERY different than the Banshee scene. Its a whole different world. Any XC racer that is racing a XC series competitivly, has prolly never even rode a Banshee. Now with all that hot air said..... East coast and West coast XC racing are two different animals. Im an east coaster, where GNCC's are held, Pennsylvania is the worlds XC racing hot spot. Out west, like where BenBB races, they race in the desert and they call it XC. I guess its different than "desert racing' like the Baja races cause they throw in a bunch of twists and turns throughout the course, but I'm pretty sure they're nothing like an east coast, in the deep woods, trees inches from your handle bars, mud holes the size of swimming pools type of XC racing. You can definitly have some fun racing a Banshee on a XC track, but you'll be a better racer and have more fun on a modern 4 stroke, or a nice 250r. -
ya woodsy would do these PSA spots on TV during the 70s & 80s and his catch phrase was "give a hoot, dont pollute". After that gig was up, Woodsy turned to porting 2 strokes

Im comtemplatin' buyin' a Wrangler. Whats the lowdown on these things, what should I be looking for, what model year did they change the dash and whats the story on reliablity ? Im looking to spend $5000 on one and I want the newer style dash that I think was introduced in '97, but everything I'v found with those two critera have very high milage. Can I trust a jeep with 120,000 plus miles ?? Whats the story with the two engine sizes ? is the 4 cyl a good motor or should I stay away from them ? This will be my primary vehicle. Any and all info would be appreciated. -denny
