i have an 89 banshee... j arm. any different?
-
Ok.. so like.. today was my first day of riding the banshee after 2 months ago cuase of my accident.. finally solved my engine problems and now it runs good buuuut... IF I GO OVER 4th GEAR, AND EXPECIALLY WHEN I GUN IT, IT WOBBLES THE HANDLE BARS LIKE A MUTHER. i mean like, seriously, 2 inchs back and forth back and forth on both sides, it makes it damn near impossible to ride. Its easyily noticable. lemme put it this way, its so bad, that i wont go over 4th gear, cause its so wobbly that i cant control it. Now.. 2 months ago, i crashed it. BAD i dont remember how it crashed, why, or how it landed or how many thimes it roled, but i do know that before it crashed the plastices were new, but now they have scraths on it. Big gash scratchs. So i know i at least rollesd it a few times. ( lol i was going so fast, that it launched me so far and so hard, and my head hit the ground so hard, that it knocked me unconsoius for about 40 minutes before my friends found me, and then i kept fading in and out of consiousnes. Thats how hard i, and in turn, the quad hit the ground. so, me and my dad deduced that its not the axel. Now we looked at the front end. I think it needs a rebuild. I can move the wheels with my hands.. theyre tight, but the wheels wobble back and forth due to the used a arm bushings, and used tie rod bushings. They wobble back and forth about 3/4 of an inch with my hands.. they wobble. Like the bshings are worn. The other problems are that for some reason, the right wheel sits funny.. like this ~~~~ / / ~~~~~ slanted. Wtf? help me out here.. what else could be the prblem.

good news everyone.. i cant belive this.. im about ready to slam my head into a wall.. me and my dad been working on this for the past 3 days.. and we finally found the problem.. We were running out of options, and decided to switch the reed cages... well whataya know, NOW THE RIGHT SIDE WORKS AND THE LEFT SIDE DOESNT. ARRRRGHH! lol so tomorrow my dades gonna pick up some cheap stock replacements from metro and my banshe will be kickin arse again. ^^ thx for the help. I just cant belive after all that it was the reeds.
-
wait.. so.. all i have to do is bore it? will that cure my problem? the bottom end will have to stay... i just dont have the resources to upgrade that.
-
lol yea yea

ive been trying to explain to my mom that if we dont fix everything up, something could go seriously wrong and i could end up paying 5 or 6 times the amount it woulda cost then, but she doesnt belive me. My dad does, as hes been a mechanic for 40 years, but he cant convince my mom. She doesnt think i should have to spend any money into it. We explained to her when we bought an old used banshee that we would have to put some work into it.. but she didnt listen.
-
matter of factly, i used to mow lawns back in ennsylvania.. made a killing.. but i live in az.. all we got here is rock gardens :/
-
i dont have the money to do that... my moms real stingy.. if she has to spend 60 bucks on my quad all i hear is this is rediculas, get a job, blah blah blah blah blah. if i do eventually convince her to get a new top end, shell NEVER buy me a new crank, or even give me the money to get it trued and welded. I cant get a job, im only 14 :/
-
so i do need a new top end? anyone know who bores cylinders out here in phx
-
you dont need to run high octane fuel for that.. its probably not good for it either >_>. i do know a few things ^^
-
ok umm... i did not rejet it but i do belive the person before me did... the entire tors sytem was removed.. the box, the throttl, the carbs tops, etc. air box with lid, uni filter, all bone sotck, and when i said it was an 89 i was wndering if i should maybe rebore it'? im not sure if 60 is low for a cylinder.. i dont think it should quite be time to bore it yet.. but what do i know? ^^ also on another note, when i replaced the crank seals, the head had some dents and gashes in it from when aparrently, before me, someone blew a piston, it broke apart, and smashed the head, but he never bored it out.. should i fix the head? thx.

"Hey everyone, I just have recently purchased a 97 banshee that was not running. I cleaned both carbs and got it running, but only on one cylinder. I took the carbs back off and cleaned them again, with still the same result. I changed the plugs and still the same thing. The right side runs great, but the left side doesn't. From an idle I could hear the left side start to kick in a little, but with the throttle it would die back off. I got a clymer manual on it and from what the book seems to tell it is maybe an electrical problem such as the coil. Just wanted to see if anyone has had a similar problem, or if anyone could give me a little help with it. I've been in the 2-strokes awhile now, but this is my first banshee, and any help would be appreciated." OK this was someone elses post. i copyed it because im having the exact same problem except my right side isnt running but the left side is.. tim sorta new here.. but i know u guys are the experts. Ok.. the coil, isnt bad, changed the wires, changed the sparkplugs, nothin. itll put.. like.. really a little smoke out.. when its warmed up.. but u gotta look really close to see it... the right side is totally cool, just going up and down, no combustion... left side is.. ok.. not running too good.. but meh.. the banshee is BONE stock except for the tors was removed.. its on the original top end.. it has 65 compression in one side, 70 in the other. its an 89. Im running 250 jets and im close to sea level.. i need some help here guys.. been trying to fix it.. any help is apritiated. thx edit- btw i forgot to mention.. that when i took my boost bottle off, there was some fuel in there. thx

welp too late lol ill be fine im sure. also to the one guy, i dont ride in woods.. i live in the dessert.. wide open space galore. that sounjds nice that agressive port. would a 20cc cool head work? if u guys really think imma have alot of trouble then if i try it and dont like it ill sell it and do that cause that sounds good too. u guys are really makin me nervous here:/ and was all he have on it just the normal bolt ons and that port or did he have something else with it
-
ok so itll have a little bit more then stock power and i should ditcht the t-5's? i do pretty much fireroad trails so its not like i need a WHOLE lot of speed. but i like my speed. =) so i think imma go with cpi cause i hear good things about that. edit- where do i get cpi pipes.. and i dont want drag pipes i want something that looks similar to t-5's or t-6's or like fattys. edit- 2- someone said something about i should get better carbs. what shold i get if the 35 pwk's arnt good enough?
-
ok as of now here are the mods that will be on my bike.. the cub cylinders will be here in about a week (woot) t-5 pipes vf-3's k&n pods 35mmpwk keinen carbs fmf boost bottle (yeaaa for powa!) lol +4 timing fast clutch direct drive lockup along with a +4 swinger the cub is comin with a cool head.. so my question is since a cub is meant for draggin.. hpw will the powerband be on the bottom end? will it be the same or will it go down so like something near stock? im hoping it doesnt. Itll still be good right?
-

ok i may have found a spot to get +2+1 arms for the special front end on a 89 banshee. Are these it? (scroll down to the a arms and itll say 87-90 "V arms") what are the advantages/disadvantages to +2+1 a arms? err i should say v arms.
-
yea... that we dont have.. those are hard trails.. the usual spot i ride is pretty flat
-
ok.. i have the same problem.. want to go a arm but how
-
really thats just a hill that some dude took wrong. yea thats pretty much what we have here. but we aint got like trenchs, big ass bolder climbs, or nothin that serious like they have in wa
-

-

-
+4 eh? well im trying to get more feedback on how +4's do on trails.. and yea i live in az so i go to dunes every now and then. i only got one dude relpy and he said it sucked ass. i wanted to go +4 cause thats what i was told would be minimum. but if it sucks... 70% trails 20% drag 10% dunes
-
