you need to match the porting on the cases so to say, everything is sucked into the crank case, it must be opened up as well, make sure you splitt the case so debri does not get in there when porting. I would put a320 main in the stockers, yours has about what mine has, I even drilled my 320 jetts out, it made a diffrence.

If its blowing smoke and wont idle, just by chance are you running really rich, you could just have a clogged jet, piolet check that out.

I would check the head gasket.

What is the benifit of running a wide rear, would'nt it be easier to trow a nearow rear end around a wide front than a wide rear.

sounds like a gummed up jrt take the carb apart and clean the jets with a straned of speaker wire, check your reeds while carb is off, oh make sure your not running to lean, could also be bad crank seal, cannot creat any sucktion.

what color is your plug, sounds like your giveing it more fuel but dont know where your needle was before, I would guess and say it needs air,

You have a peice of dirt or something in your float needle and your running rich, give it a little air, then she will hit right, good luck
