  1. Well, front sprockets are cheap, if you really want to run 22's put them on, and you can always drop to a 14 or if need be a 13 to adjust your bike to suit your needs.
  2. After about three weeks of running my new banshee (it's an 03') the top end went out. It had "new pistons" I'm guessing the guy who put the new pistons in had no idea what he was doing, or maybe he re-ringed a sh*tty piston and sold it. Either way, I'm the guy who bought it, and I now have the thing tore apart and am about to put a new top end on it. Just out of curiosity what can I do to it that will make an impact on it H/P wise that I can do at home? Polish stuff with my dremel? I've heard some way of doing a timing advance at home, is this worth doing? Is it a risky thing to try for an amature? Also, while it's apart would it be worth it to get the head shaved? I live in alaska right now (army) and the gas sucks. I don't want to cause detonation and fry my engine.
  3. no they look fine. I pulled the reeds out, they had a slight smokey colored discoloration twards the bases, it wiped off. I held them up to the light, no cracks
  4. Well, I pulled my reed cage it seems fine. I don't know much about 2 strokes, so I'm not sure what to look for, but they are closed, and uniform. Any other ideas?
  5. it's an '03 I've only had it for about a month, but it's suposed to have a new top end. Of course, that may very well be B.S. , But it was running strong, then just kinda went to hell. I've got to work for 24hrs tomorrow (go army!) But when I get a chance maybe that next afternoon I'm going to pull my reed cages and look at them. What should I look for? I'm pretty new to working on two strokes.
  6. it doesn't want to idle, but if i give it a fair amount of gas it sounds halfway decent, not great ofcourse, but like you said, there is way more exhaust pressure coming out of the right side (the good one) than the left. If I rev it up pretty good the left one will feel like the right one does at idle.
  7. I guess it would be of some help to tell people what I'm running. The engine is stock, it's got pipes and a foam filter with no box. It's got a filter skin on it and the filter and skin are oiled with maxima foam filter oil. It's a single filter though, so if it was the filter it should be effecting both sides.
  8. I just thought of something else... when I replaced my plugs the left one was fouled and kinda wet the right one looked just right. I don't know if that narrows things down any
  9. Anyone got any advice? I was running it a couple days ago and it ran fine, but yesterday it was kinda hesitating right before the power band. I blamed it on crappy gas. But now the left cylinder is barely running. I put new plugs in it, drained all the gas out and replaced it with new. Still nothing. I'm getting spark, so my next guess is to pull that carb and clean it all out real good, make sure nothing is plugged up. Any other advice? Thanx for the help
  10. What oil do you guys reccomend for a banshee's tranny? I've just got the basic bolt ons, and riding for recreation. I've been running mobil one 10-30. The temp. here doesn't get much over 70, ever.
  11. What does a banshee need to beat a yfz? Assuming they tires and riders are equal.
  12. Thanks for the advice guys. Oh, just to make sure we are on the same page fancy stickers are good for 3 horses right? And if they have flames your looking at five?
  13. My filter is a dual layer foam toomey clamp on with no intake box. From what I've read on here everyone is a big fan of porting, before reading these forums I thought porting was just for top end, I had no idea there were options with it. Maybe that's the way I'll go. I'm in Alaska though, and there's not much left of summer, so any kinda of engine work is going to wait for snow fall. Then I'll have all the time in the world.
  14. I've got a 03 banshee with the toomey t6 kit; pipes, filter, jets. I'm looking to squeeze some more power out of it, while keeping as much green in my wallet as possible. I ride a lot of trails, but I like to open it up now and then too. I also don't want to risk reliabillity. thanx for the help
