  1. Couldn't agree more !
  2. Being as certain as you are about your proposed setup (which very well may a good one) IMO - Pulling a set of pipes off a bike for a quick test would take less time than all the keyboard time spent so far. But even then ... comparing dyno #'s from diff dyno's is like ... well we all know what that's like. We have had a couple reply's from real world riding that seem to make these cylinders a pretty darn fun bike to ride.
  3. Sounds like you need a 4 stroke It all boils down to ones specific riding situation - imo Torque gets you there (& these have tons the way the have been setup thusfar) HP keeps you there ! Oh, & you don't have to run racegas to have compression or FUN - the masses are wanting pump fuel anyway. Here's a couple more pics of the build we did here in this thread. .... & yes ... I'm aware it's just a gauge. I'd bet the build you have in mind would pull stumps out of the ground - can't wait to hear about it.
  4. Boyeson ports - extra transfers & tripple exhaust is where the 35mm carb makes for a GREAT choice for this cylinder. The flow potential of a cub over a stocker is the key. So, you were right a 35 does belong on a cub As far as the V-Forces ... they work flawlessly ... why can't a "drag" reed respond accurately at 4K anyway ? The dome design lends itself to a pretty crucial factor as well ... something that was, um ... not discussed in any great detail. We finished up this build with the CPI inframes ... Peter & Paul are Even Stevens - lol
  5. Damn, took the initiative to be one of the 1st to lab rat this cylinder (payed full price-fyi) stimulated the HQ economy with several builders, reported everything I could with pics, & am getting crucified over a set of carbs & reeds. Not looking for a pat on the head ... nor do I want one ... but how about maybe buying a set of Servals & setting it up how you see fit ... or you can donate some 28's & a set of Boyesons. I'm done here. (thanks Rog & Daj - talk to ya'll l8r)
  6. Snop- Maybe some people are interested though - I can see where you are coming from... could it be better with other parts in other RPM ranges ... i'm sure it can. But please keep in mind though, I/we had the reeds & carbs allready purchased, so we bolted on what we had. That being said, & Imo, the owner of this bike has a riding style that suites the combo installed very nicely.... & he agrees. I didn't mean this to be an end-all be-all test of these cylinders, but rather just documenting to the public which direction we (within monetary means) were headed & to give an unbiased/honest opinion of these particular results from a seat of the pants view. p.s. I have never been on sand or dune riding, so I won't give an opinion of how this would act - but if I had to guess ... It would Rock.
  7. Just 33 yrs young Yeah ... it hauls bro.
  8. ok - will work on that.
  9. Spent the 1st half of my life as a yankee in PA - but don't tell these guys - lol OK - back to the 300' Will play with the CPI's after the 'Bama race.
  10. I'm cheesing on the left - owner JP on the right Been a fun project - Thanks go out to Calvin - Andy & Tim And to JP ... for giving me the opportunity to do what I love the most.
  11. What a beast ! Dropped the pilot to a 45 from 50 & leaned the needle a clip - added pods & 1 degree of timing. Got even better (didn't think possible) on bottom & mid ... & pulls very nicely on top even with the Fatty's. Will lift the front up without any weight shift input from the rider in 5th now (except in grass-lol) Total Blast to ride - Power delivery is spot on for intended use of these cylinders
  12. LOL - I have a couple digital sets ... find myself reaching for these though, more often than not ... kinda dig the surface area of the backside & jaws a little better maybe - gotta love a big backside sometimes
  13. Right on Tim. Oh, & I took that pic before I noticed the plate wasn't decked flat - got that true. ok - I am suf.. fering from a severe c ..ase of arm pump while t..yping, so bare with me Just ran it for the 1st time, Titan's Domes Fatty's Filter in box VF3's 35PWK's 93 octane +3 on the plate 215lb rider - Full weight bike. ... TONS of bottom to upper mid Poor tires don't know what to do. Leave it in 3rd & slow down enough to turn a 180* switchback, you know, right before the engine would want to "chug" ... pin it ... & it pulls right into the powerband while you find yourself sliding towards the back of the seat. Quite impressive I find myself looking for just a few hundred more RPM on top, no doubt due to the airbox & Fatty's - but is PLENTY for woods/MX & regular ol' play riding. Will be trying out the pods then swap to the CPI's. Curious as to how much, if at all, Peter will be robbed to pay Paul for the extra rpm. These cylinders are .... quite Awesome ! Couple pics of leakdown & squish.
  14. Unscrew the plug boots & look at the color of the plug wire. Clip a 1/4 inch off at a time until you no longer see a green coroded color. Then seperate the strands of wire at the end by inserting a pick in the middle of them, (just a little ways 1/8 or so) this ensures the threaded post of the cap doesn't wander off as you thread it back on. Aplly inward pressure while threading & stop when you feel the resistance increase - that feeling is the post in the cap bottoming out - don't strip/overtighten. Then recheck. You may also pay the same kind of attention to the coil side of the wires - go easy on the retaining clip.
  15. No, just thought it might be good for a laugh.
  16. Stroke measures 2.289
  17. I'm on it - will do. Oh, & ignore the rod centerline question - caught me in an edit
  18. 100% ... no. But, 99% yes. Thank you kindly for the update. Another thought I had that might could be added to the list of tolerances is: Does this sideview incorporate the gasket crush & the machining required to square/true the decks of the fresh castings ... that could be another couple of thou ?
  19. Amen !
  20. Ok ... Got the news. Spec says .005 in the hole with a .012 gasket... don't know if that's compressed or not. I have 0 to .002+ deck (depending on where you pick up the chamfer on timing edge of piston) with an as listed .020 cometic... torqued. That's what ... - .013 to .015 difference... roughly. Spec cylinder height is 4.079. This one measures a repeatable 4.0735 with calipers & micrometer on both sides. The .020 gasket measures .019 new & .0165 after removal of the cyl at 20 lb/ft. There is .008(ish) combined. With .005 to the cylinder. I think the cleaning/etching process before plating may be suspect ? Similiar to why some castings become porous over numerous replates ? That leaves .004 to .006 to machining tolerances within the: Case deck height. Case/crank bore. Crank web stroke from center. Piston pin center line to timing edge. Crank pin to rod centerline. And my margin of error. To put a touch of deck height confirmation with things - a set of domes with a .025 step, measured .028 on several pieces of solder (+/- what, maybe .002 for the challenge of measuring a soft piece of tapered pasta) - lol What do ya think ?
  21. I couldn't agree more - of all the 4mm cubs I have done, this is the 1st that made me triple take the deck. I was like ... huh ?? Will pull the cylinders & see. I've installed nuts on a DM I feel ya ... I do. But the 12 point wouldn't go. So while I was in there I figured I'd take it out to accept the factory nuts. Sometimes they are just a little snug, sometimes it's no problem. Really no big deal. Just giving my honest & unbiased review.
  22. I did not. Didn't think about until after I measured deck.
  23. Cases are virgin. Hotrods crank. 58 Stroke 115 Rod 573 Wiseco Piston
  24. To respond to a couple PM's. Head by Noss - dome profiling by Titan. No lid on the box. 91-93 octane is available & will be used. Matched reed stuffers to intake. Cases unported/matched for now.
  25. Hmmm... wonder where the descrepancy is ? I also left the flashing in the ports as finished by Millenium. The rest of the set-up ... Checking out a Noss head for the 1st time. Will confirm dome profile when they arrive. Pump gas CPI SB Inframes / FMF Fatty's 35 PWK's V-Force 3's K&N in the box / Pods DriveLine Clutch Drag version w/pancake Adj. Timing plate Will probably start at 0 on the plate with the FMF's & filter in the box. 160 mains & 50 pilots DEK needle in the middle. 900ft 70* Low Humidity Thanks for the offer, it's appreciated.
