Look what i scored on ebay for YFZ a-arm conversion
2003LimitedBanshee replied to MFIC's topic in Suspension
You can run eithe caliper, but you'll have to get YFZ450 caliper bolts to bolt them up. Because the 450 spindle is aluminum it is considerably thicker than the Banshee spindle so your Banshee bolts will not work. As far as spacers go, I have them available for the 450 swaps. If you have any questions about them I have a posting here and in the for sale area. Peterlocal22 is one of a few people running them on here if you need a reference as far as quality, fit etc. -Brian -
450 A-Arm Kits!
2003LimitedBanshee replied to 2003LimitedBanshee's topic in For Sale - Parts & Accessories
Thanks Peter! You were as easy to work with as they come. I'm glad the parts worked out so well for you and I could help get you back up and riding that much quicker. To everyone else, I am working on getting some more cores for complete kits (minus shocks?). I have one set of my new order spoken for, but please contact me if you are interested, that way I can get enough parts coming to me for everyone. By the way, I still have a few sets of spacers from my first production run. Thanks! -Brian -

Thanks a ton Peter; I'm glad you liked the product so well! I should also point out that Peter was very easy to work with and very understanding on the timeline. As far as a buyer goes, he was as easy to work with as they come. Thanks!!!!! -
Thanks man! Sorry to make you clean the bike, but glad you liked the arms! You were a great buyer to deal with as well!

450 A-Arm Kits!
2003LimitedBanshee replied to 2003LimitedBanshee's topic in For Sale - Parts & Accessories
Thanks everone for the interest/sales thus far. In my current stock I've got four sets of spacers left and one set of arms that are for a friends bike, but he has yet to pay. I currently only have them with stock tie rods, but I can get them with NOSS if you prefer. Also, please let me know if you are interested and I can start accumulating parts again to make kits up for interested parties. Thanks!! -Brian -

PM Sent!! -
Maybe I am missing something here MM, but if you flip the rezzies then flip the shocks side to side are your rezzies going to be in the back now again? It looks like you would probably still have clearance issues, but it's worth a shot for sure. I'd be curious to see how this all works out, maybe I'll have to start looking for some TRX450 shocks. Do they make anything like a SE that has hi/low adjustments? Also, I can't remember what the rezzie configuration on the LTR450's is like?

450 Shocks sold pending payment. BUMP!!! Also, MM and peterlocal, your parts went out on Saturday, Priority Mail, you should see them mid-late week. Thanks! -
Peter, you should be getting yours this week, I was actually able to drop them on Saturday instead of Tuesday like I had thought; didn't realize USPS would be running on Saturday with today being a holiday. Thanks for the support, let me know how you like them. While it's true that the a-arms will pivot just as normal without spacers, it could potentially allow the a-arms to be bent if you don't have them supported in some way. Here is a picture of the spacers I designed for the swap... If you don't run some sort of spacer, and I'm not saying you should, have to or whatever, run my spacer, but without a spacer the aluminum spacer section in my photo would have no support. Therefore, you could bend the arm easier as it could slide on the stock sleeve until it hit the inside frame mounts. Also, the stock sleeve will be too short as it is designed to sandwich in between the dust caps at both ends. Some guys just tighten theirs down and let the flex in the stock frame mounts take up the gap they are left with, but I prefer not to do that. Like I say, I don't care if you run my spacers or not, but I would run some sort of spacer regardless. - Brian EDIT: Almost forgot, as far as track/wheelbase improvements. Yes, you gain 2.25" per side, making your front end 4.5" wider total. As well, you also gain 1" forward on the wheelbase. Both of these factors greatly improve how the bikes behave. You cannot correct the front end geometry with a-arms, but you can make the ride and handling better. Feel free to PM me with any questions you might have.

450 A-Arm Kits!
2003LimitedBanshee replied to 2003LimitedBanshee's topic in For Sale - Parts & Accessories
Alright guys, I've got three sets of spacers left and 2 sets of A-arms. All the arms left are silver and can either be done with NOSS tie rods (1 set) or stock YFZ450 Tie Rods. I also have a set of YFZ450 shocks that I could package with the arms or separate. All pricing still applies, $275 for a stock tie rod set with spacers, $300 on a NOSS Tie Rod kit with spacers. YFZ450 shocks, $180 shipped or $170 additional, if packaged with A-arms. Shipping on complete kit TBD. Thanks again! -Brian -

The spacers are selling at $45 +$4 S/H, so $49 to your doorstep. I know this may seem steep at first, but they are made from 7075 Hardened Alloy and are just expensive to have produced. As mentioned, I should have a few extra sets to sell separately. Thanks! -

Alright, the last odds and ends of parts should be in tomorrow night! With the holiday weekend coming up, I should have kits and spacers ready to ship first thing Tuesday morning. I will be PM'ing everyone who has expressed interest in parts shortly. Please let me know what you are in need of. Even if everyone who has expressed interest follows through, I should have a few extra sets of spacers and possibly one full kit up for sale. As always, thanks! -Brian -
After reading all the back and forth, I have to agree with those that said the opinions of price should have been kept to themselves or PM'd to be appropriate. Secondly, someone and I'm ont going to waste the time to look back through it, said it perfectly. You guys in the midwest buy your stuff for way cheap. I see bikes go all the time locally for $5-$7K with your basic pipes filter etc., unported etc. It's just the case of different markets. Heck, when I bought my '03 in late '04 I paid top book for it ($4700) and it was bone stock with very few hours on it. Anyway man, free bump, sorry your thread got screwed!

This has nothing to do with the question you've posed, but I want to make sure you know your shocks are mounted upside down???
-
You are right that the shock angle is greater with the 450 A-arms installed as compared to stock, but a couple of things. Firstly, a greater shock angle (to a limit of course) is actually preferred in suspension geometry as it allows for more wheel travel with the same stroke shock. Second, modifying the lower shock mounting position would entail a significant amount more work and really would make this conversion less desirable. Third, when mounted on the Banshee, the 450 upper arms are mounted so that the straight tube of the a-arm is to the back, therefore moving the shock mount inboard would not gain you any shock to a-arm clearance. I'm not meaning for any of those statements to be attacking, so please don't take them as such. RZ, just let me know. I've been riding on mine now for over a month and I absolutely love it! -Brian

Couldn't agree more, if they are running cubs on nitrous, don't waste the time on domes because it won't matter one bit! Just save the money all the time. And Snop is right on the setup too. I was messing with my suspension this weekend at the dunes (tuning the new Hi/Low SE 450 shocks with the stock rear) and got it to where it was awesome running out through the open dunes. But when I went to drag at Boxcar it was unloading the back end like a big dog! It took me 20 plus minutes to get it dialed back in for dragging.

I love that shot, I was just there this weekend. However, on my stock swingarm I've never had the nerve to go down to the water line, I always take the short loop around that tree that was about mid-run for you. I prefer the hillclimbs back towards Spinreel on the same side of the dunes. A couple weekends back myself and a kid on his dad's hot 250R were the only ones to come out of the farthest right line (from the bottom). I ran the damn thing about 8 times and didn't make it, gave up, then tried one last time after the dad couldn't run it and ran it first time. Later his kid finally made it after about 15 attempts. God I want to ride, 2 more weeks, plus I'll have my +4 then, and it will be on!! Stick around until the 8th and I'll be over there.

I must agree that it seems you had your mind made up on this before you posted. There is nothing limiting you from doing this if you want to, it's not like switching from Alky to Gas and back. But if there is "big money" thrown around, why are you worrying about running race fuel all the time if you are throwing it out there? Try buying it by the drum. I pay just under $6/gal when I buy a drum of Trick 114. Plus as was mentioned, I think you will want the pull those smaller domes give you all the time once you ride it. Even though I hate nitrous (personal opinion) if you want that sudden shock and awe, get a Boondocker setup or something and squeeze it when you drag, don't when you aren't. But if it was me and I wanted even more (even though I hate nitrous) I would run 18's on race and spray it when racing. Just my $.02 The other thing, when I've started hanging around when some of the big boys of my area came to "play" it wouldn't have mattered how small a dome I was running. When the stroked Cubs on alky come to play, you might as well pack up and go home. Knife to a gun fight? The other option would be to just sandbag it and then stomp them if you've got the motor to do it???

It is close, but as long as your frame mounts/frame are not damaged, and provided you trimmed the A-arms to specification they will clear. I have about 1/4" on each side (left vs. right) with no clearance issues. I have also seen bent shocks as well, which could be another possible area for problems.

450 A-Arm Kits!
2003LimitedBanshee replied to 2003LimitedBanshee's topic in For Sale - Parts & Accessories
Sorry guys, just got back from a weekend away riding the dunes. MM - You got it, I'll put you down for a set. Sleeper06 - Got your PM, PM'd you back. I believe I may have one extra set when all is said and done with the people who have said they want a pair already. If not, I am working on more cores right now to prepare more kits. I have not heard whether my production run is complete on the parts, but I am hoping by Tuesday, so that I can deliever to everyone. As always, keep your eyes out and thanks for the interest! -Brian -
Thanks for the plug Roost!! Hope you like your arms (Banshee), looks like they are officially on the truck headed to you. The 450 Kits do offer you a good upgrade over the stock suspension at a reasonable price. They don't offer all the adjustability of an aftermarket kit, but my personal opinion is that many people won't use those kits to their potential if they really evaluate it. Check them out and let me know if you're interested. I also have a post in the Suspension Forum with a few additional pictures. Thanks! -Brian
