  1. ADDED POLL....Click Here OK, I think I'm ready for my first performance mod. From what I hear, Pipes are the best single mod you can do to increase performance. The only question is which ones....? Right now my Banshee is Completely STOCK!! I do mostly Desert/Trail riding with some occasional Dunes/hill climbs (but not neccesarily drags). Even on trails I like "sliding" around the corners so I keep the RPM's in the mid to upper range... Then almost WFO whenever possible. So far the "best" recommendation I've gotten is a set of Toomey's... And I like the air filter/jet kit that comes with it, 'cause I know next to NOTHING about jetting anyway. (I'm thinking the 2 into 1 Uni filter kit that comes with it) Any other Pipe, I'll want to upgrade the air filter anyway, and them I'll have to be told what Jets I'm gonna need. (CPI's, Trinity IV's, Whatever) I may add a Dyna Ignition and tires, but that's gonna be it at this point! Oh and I have STOCK porting as well.... I'l need something forestry and sound legal as I'll be hitting the OHVRA's regularly and wanna keep the rangers off my tail! With that Said, what else do you recommend?
  2. With ALL these people in California, no one has a Titled frame they're willing to part with?!?!? Money's in hand!! Just waiting for the merchandise!!
  3. Both have good VIN and Title (or bill of sale)? I need an '02 or ealier frame. -->Here's what I need:<-- Let me know! You mean it's usless WITH stock pipes and I'll have to run aftermarket pipes? (no prob)
  4. Still looking for a Banshee Frame.... in California. Looking for an '02 frame or earlier for a "custom project." Frame in good shape...minimal wear. With good VIN# and Title (or bill or sale) I'm REALLY looking for an "in state" (California) frame. It will make it ALLOT easier for me to register a "custom Shee" if it's from California. I have found several out of state frames, so when I get ready I have plenty of choices. Just nothing from California. I'll even consider paying a "little extra" for a Cali frame with title! HELP ME OUT! Why an '02 or earlier you ask?!? I live in So Cal, so I want an '02 or earlier so I don't have any "red sticker" issues. When my "project" is finished, I want to be able to ride it year round!! Come the end of April/May I won't be able to ride my '04 much! That's basically it..hit me up!! TAX RETUN IN!!! READY TO BUY!!!
  5. Thanks for your wonderful word of encouragement!! 8 to 12 weeks is bad enough... I don't even wanna think about SIX MONTHS!!!
  6. I have a cast just like that now! It was past my elbow... but now I have a short cast with a thumb spike! It's even blue just like that... BUT it's on my RIGHT hand not the left... Clutch isn't the problem... I can't control the throttle (twist). 3 weeks down! Only 5 to 10 weeks left!! I know what you mean... all it was was a "little bump". Actually it felt just like bumping your funny bone... tingly numb feeling... got stiff and a little "sore" so I check it out... and BROKE! Go Figure!! (I still can't believe it's actually broke!)
  7. I think I'm done riding my Shee for quite awhile now. Unfortunately... Here's why..... I was riding with my brother on thursday for about 2 hours or so, and I went down this little hill (was only a couple feet high and I was going really, realy slow), but the bump at the top was just enough to throw me off balance just a tad, as I went down the other side and I bumped my helmet (not hard... just a little bump) on the handle bars and tweeked my wrist just a tad. Didn't even fall off or anything.. just a "minor" imbalance that caused me to "tweek" my wrist a little... Didn't hurt too bad or anything, just a little "twinge" in my wrist that didn't feel too good. It didn't hurt THAT bad though. So, I survived riding my quad home and all... Well anyway, after I got home within an hour or two it started to feel a little worse and was getting a little stiff, so I thought I'd head down to the local Kaiser Permanente to get it checked out just in case I sprained it or something. By the time I saw the doctor (after about 1 1/2 hour in the wating room) the pain was becoming nearly unbearable. I could not move my wrist at all (without pain anyway). As you can imagine, it was not a sprain... I BROKE one of the bones in my right wrist!! Not a little crack or something... I BROKE it!! It's the Carpal Navicular (surprised I remembered it!). Also known as the Scaphoid bone! Acording to the doctor it's the second slowest healing bone in the body! (Go figure!!) And I had to break the sucker IN HALF! Fortunately it wasn't displaced at all, so he just put me in a full length cast (over my thumb and up past my bicep) and said I'm likely to be in a cast for 10 - 12 Weeks! He said it could be much worse... apparently there are allot of usual complications associated with this injury, but since I got it checked out right away, I should be fine. But no more ATVing for awhile... It's still really painful, and he gave me some Motrin (presciption stuff) and some Vicodin (the good stuff). For just that "little bump" and a very slight "twinge" in my wrist, I still can't believe I broke it!! And of course I'm right handed, so this is really gonna mess up my daily routine for awhile!! Anyway, I didn't sleep too well last night. First this huge cast is awkward and quite uncomfortable! Second, IT HURTS! Hense the need for the vicodin. =-) The Vicodin works pretty well to relieve the pain. It's not a "wonder drug" and doesn't really knock me out, or even make me drowsy at all like I've heard other people describe it. And as far as I can tell, the 600mg of Motrin doesn't help much. It might help with inflamation but not really with pain. Doc said if Motrin doesn't help with pain, then take the Vicodin too. So I am, and I'm taking the max dosage I can. I've never had incredibly great results with many drugs... most don't work very well for me. The Vicodin works just WELL ENOUGH as long as I take it whenever the bottle says I can. Oh and of course the Shee is fine!! Not even a scuff mark from the helmet!! But there is no way I'll be riding it again anytime soon... Twist throttle no workie if wrist no workie!! Worst injury to date...EVER! And had nothing to do with speed, carelessness, or anything. One of those things that just couldn't be helped!! Really Sucks!! No pics to post or anything... no visual blemishes or ANYTHING (to the shee or me). Just a little swelling and now this big dumb cast... oh guess what... I got a blue one to match the Shee!! Oh and did I mention ...
  8. For you Diehards... ElectrexUSA also offers a 250watt LIGHTING coil for the banshee. It has a 165watt wire for hi-output lights and also has a SECOND 100watt wire to run the stockers or another set of lights or accesories (requires a second 12V regulator). Price is a little more than ricky's though. About $250, but if you're SERIOUS about light it'll definately do the job. Oh, by the way... that 250watts is just for LIGHTING!!! I still has the regular output for ignition. Thats the Ignition, and 2 lighting outputs (160W and 100W)!! Very Cool!! Here's a pic!! Looks pretty beefy if you ask me!!
  9. Couple suggestions on for HIDs for you.... First, make sure whether it's 6000K color temperature or 6000K candle power. Most HIDs are rated in watts at a certain color temperature. 6000K candlepower (thats 6 million) is almost unheard of except maybe on a spotlight!! 6000K color temperature (6000 degrees Kelvin) is very common for HIDs. Basically means its a bright white with a slight blue tint to it. Very bright though! 5000K is completely white and goes as high as 12000K which is purple. Second... HIDs require constant DC power! They will not run well, if at all, on AC power. (Note: Banshees run off of AC power) You can check the TrailTech website for more details. Basically Involves adding a new regulator/recifier and a battery. If you don't run a battery you will need about 30watts minimum output from your stator at IDLE. (for small ones...the ones I'll be running would require about 60watts at idle) HIDS are not like regular lights (obviously). They will not simply dim if the stator output is too low. Because HIDs run off of a SPARK and not a filament, they will shut off completely if they do not have enough power running to them. The constant "flickering" that would occur without proper consistent power would drastically affect the life of the bulbs as well as the ballast. Just make sure you're doing it right if you want to take the HID path. Not to rain on your parade or anything... just don't want you frustrated or dissappointed when things don't go as planned. I'm actually considering HIDs myself... I've already purchased all the needed components to convert my 'Shee to DC power (cost me like $50 in parts). Fortunately the batteries are pretty small (lead acid). The one I got is about 1 1/2X4x2 inches. I'll post pics once I get the conversion done and post pics of the Shee with my new lights. I'll be adding some 75watt HIDs (that's output... they'll consume only 30 watts of power...EACH). Ought to light up, just about the whole damn mountain!! I'm still figuring out a few options so give me a couple weeks and I'll post some pics... GOOD LUCK!!
  10. Yeah...works great for the back tires.... Doesn't help one bit when you have the front ones sunk in 8" to10" though! I gonna need some better tires for Mud and trail... not enough mudd around here enough of the time to justify buying solely mud tires... think some Holeshot HD's will work nicely for trail though. But yeah...MuDD is a ton of Fun!! I'll klean it later... I got it to ride...not to show!!
  11. Gotta love this storm that just hit the west coast! Rain calmed down a bit today, so I thought I'd take the chance to try my shee in some mudd. It's usually pretty dry in the desert so I don't get to play in the mud much. Most the terrain is pretty sandy and doesn't really stick much, but I found this one spot with really soft silt/clay type sand... Had about 2 or 3 inches of water on top of it.... you see where this is going. Well as you know this is the kind of mud that sticks... TO EVERYTHING!! So I start flying through it...back and fourth. Doing some donuts in like 3rd gear (maybe 4th)... anyhow I was mixing up really good. Before you know it I have a huge mudhole about 7 x 10ft thats anywhere from 1 to 2 ft deep!!! Sticky stuff mind you!! I'm flying through this stuff WOT in 4th and 5th gear. Trying to stay on top of the mud, peeling through it and throwing it everywhere!! It was a blast!! Coated me and the Shee from head to toe in thick sticky mudd!! Gotta love it! Well... As I noticed the mudd I was mixing up was getting deeper and deeper, my Shee started going through it slower and slower. (I don't have Mudd tires...just some cheap Kenda knobbies) I get the hint... and move to another small area of the mudhole. Did the same thing but this time I was only flying through it in 3rd gear... was mixed up more than I thought and I got STUCK!! And I do mean STUCKK!!!! Just spinning my tires! Immediately the tires (front and rear) sunk about another 6 in. So now Shee was up to the rear axle and front spindles in mud. This is the really soft, sticky mudd that just about wants to suck your boots right off of your feet when you walk through it. Fortunately, I kept my boots on! That suction had the same effect on all 4 tires! I tried to no avail for 30 to 45 minutes to get it out. At which point I was dead tired and could do no more.... I finally had to suck up my pride and go "enlist" some help (my dad). Couldn't really get in close enough with a truck so we had to dig it out by hand and lift together on the front, then on the rear; and back and forth that way until we could move it over to some "slightly" more solid ground. Fortunately Dad had a good sense of humor and was kinda laughing too. Except for trying to dig it out, the whole ordeal was pretty darn funny!! Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of my Shee stuck in the mudhole. Maybe I'll take a picture of it tomorrow...I donno. (But I'm gonna *TRY* to keep my shee out of it this time...) I have a couple pictures of the aftermath of my quad. She is not as dirty in these pictures as she was when I got her out. I hit a puddle or two on the way home and washed probably about half of the mudd off. Picture in you mind, this quad with about twice as thick mudd all over it and you'd be pretty close. I hosed her down pretty good but you can still hear sand grinding in the brakes so I still need to take the brakes all apart and clean 'em real good (among other parts as well). Had a good time, but If I knew cleanup woulda been this bad I probably woulda left the mudd alone! Still wish I had a picture of her STUCK in the Mudhole...It was pretty bad... but still funny! 12. I've read many of the posts on jetting and reading the plugs, so I'm beginning to figure it out. I understand you DON'T want to use brand new plugs OR older plugs that are a little worn out. I also understand if they are black, wet, or sooty then the mixture is too rich; and if the are too white, overheated, or burned then the mixture is too lean. Perfect jetting should be a nice "hershey chocolate" tan-ish color.... So heres my question(s).... Assuming your 'Shee is perfectly dialed in, the plugs should last a good long while, right? And how long is that? I'm not asking about "preference"... I know people that change their plugs just about every other ride... I mean really... How long SHOULD they last? After about some 30+ hours of riding I finally changed my plugs and they looked kinda black and wet. I realize carbon will build up, but they shouldn't be wet looking should they (too rich?)? But that's what they looked like after about 30+ hours... Should that be expected after that long? If jetting is perfect... as long as the electrodes are in good shape, I should be able to just clean them and put them back in right? Just FYI: I have a compeletly shock shee (except for twist throttle and idle screw kit). I have not adjusted the jetting at all, 'cause it was supposed to be "ready to go" when I got it from the dealer about a month and a half ago. That dealer was at about 1000ft and probaly 50 to 70 degrees. I live just above 3000ft and it's been anywhere from 30 to 60 degrees lately. I've been using Yamalube at 24:1 (factory recommend mixture). I'll be making the switch to full synth pretty soon, and wonder if I should go a little leaner on the mixture (not the jetting..the premix..like change to 32:1 or something). In that case, then need to rejet... correct? (what do YOU think I should be at?) Just trying to understand this whole thing better.... Thanks in advance forthe help...
  13. WELL, Wallrat.... I think you overdid it!! It'd pouring cats and Dogs up here in the high desert too!! Guess it's time to go play in the MUDDD!!!! Yeeee Haw!!
  14. Are you kidding?!? I'm in better shape now than when I was in high school!! *LOL* Anyway... I still feel young... guess that's all that matters! But thanks guys... Us "Christmas babies" usually have pretty lame birthdays (as least I do...) Seems Jesus gets all the attention... Usually have to make my own plans 'cause the family is "holiday'd out" if you know what I mean. Anyway...plans fell apart this year, so it'll be just another boring day like any other day. (Unless you wanna meet up and head to Dumont or Dove Springs/Jawbone...) Need new tires for my 'Shee. I guess I'll have to go out and treat myself to a set of new ITP Holeshot H-D's and then go riding!! Cheers!
  15. Thanks...If that's all I missed, I guess I did pretty well... Although I did not specifically list those, I was just assuming that would be included in the "
  16. I was bored at work today and was just doing up a list of things I need to build my custom Banshee from scratch. I've tried to keep this as general as possible, so as not to be too confusing, but still not leave anything out and can be applied to most custom projects. Most of the items in this list are considered "NECCESARY" for a rideable Banshee (with a few exceptions). Mostly I added items that I do not plan to leave out of my own custom build... This ought to make sure you don't forget anything when starting that project.. it may also be useful when trying to set up a budget for your project. You are more than welcome to use/modify this list for your own projects... I also have this done up very nicely in MS Word format. If I don't get too many requests, I'd be more than willing to email it upon request. Maybe even have it added to the download page... What do ya think? If there is anything you think I should probably add, let me know. I don't want any surprises Banshee Project Parts List Frame (including suspension)
  17. Was out riding my Shee on sunday afternoon in a sandy area of a rock quarry.... and I Saw a small hill I thought I could catch a little air off of. It was about 4 ft high or so. Kinda sandy and gravel covered. What I failed to see was the "friggin huge" rock that was hidden in the sand right at the base of the hill... I was doing about 25-30mph and hit the rock head on... Stopped me in my tracks!!! I nearly flipped over the friggin' handlebars... luckily I managed to hold on. Good news... no personal damage to self... Bad news... completely thrashed one of my A-arm guards and dented my lower left A-arm pretty bad. It's kinda hard to tell, but I think I may have even slightly bent it. The dent is the only thing I know for sure. Definately need new A-arm gaurds...don't think I can hammer this one out... New a-arm may be questionable though. Lesson Learned.... 1. Having A-arm guards don't make your A-arms invincible... 2. Check your rock quarry hills for ROCKS before attempting to jump a hill... 3. Better an A-arm GUARD than one of my A-Arms!! Check out My Gallery for all the pics.. but here's a couple
  18. Any engine work done?? How much for Engine...complete? And for the chassis....? (asssuming good condition) Maybe a rolling chassis?
  19. I'm with blk02banshee. I ride a Banshee 'cause I like the Banshee. I'll ride with anyone... I'm not gonna bag on their ride, just cause it's not a 'Shee! (I might if they lose though...) If I was racing and whopped up on another 'Shee, I'd talk shit with them too! It's all a matter of what FEELS right for you. I didn't care for anything else I've ridden except the 'Shee. Doesn't make everything else out there a piece of shit. Ride whatever you like... And Dune_girl... Sorry, no disrepect to you... I bought the shirt 'cause I'm a Banshee rider... woulda bought it even if it said Polaris instead of Honda (or Cannondale maybe). You could even add "certain members of the Yamaha family" If you like what you ride, you won't hear me talking crap about it! Peace!
  20. Actually, I've only been there once... I've only had my 'Shee about a month, and just made my first trip there around T-day. Actually it was THAT Saturday. I was there riding for about 5 or 6 hours... Also, I'm not so sure how my trip is going to work out... I was planning on Thursday, Dec 23; but I have some family coming to visit and they get in on Thurs, so I'm not sure If I'll still head up. May try to get there in the mornng maybe and stay 'till 3 or 4pm. MAYBE.... I still have some bugs to work out. Usually, I usually ride for quite awhile... No 2 or 3 hour trips...If I'm gonna make the drive, I make sure it's worth it.. So I usually ride either until it gets dark or until I run out of gas! (I'm topped off and carry a 5 Gal can with me) If you have questions, ask away... I'll do my best to answer. Keep an eye on this post, I'll let ya know for sure, when and where I'll be going! Cheers!
  21. Yeah..tranny oil plug is in the back... I'm actually pretty handy with engine work. I used the ride dirtbikes... at 13 I completely stripped an RM80 engine down to an empty case (seized a rod..sucked) and put it all back together. I'm 24 now... N-E-WAY..... I know how to work on engines. I just don't know allot about performance additions, or maintenance intervals for this particular machine. I know how to do the work, I just need to learn how often to do it. Like my car... I do ALL my own work, but I'm sure the maintenace intervals are a tad bit different. (no brainer) I just need to become a little more educated about this particualar machine... Manual ought to help. Just wanted some imput on where to start lookin'.
  22. Hey some Dumont Guys!! (sorry...wrong thread I know). Hows the Sand?!? Never been to Dumont yet, but I know I'm only about 1 hour or so away. I'll have to meet some of you guys there sometimme! Totally stock Shee now, but I'll get some paddles before I head up there. Right now I just ride the local hills (rocky terrain) and Dove Springs (mix of all types of terrain). Keep me informed... I'm dying to hit some sand!!
  23. Well, I guess I'm doing pretty good to have not fouled the plugs after some 30+ hours of riding!! But I have an extra set anyway..guess I couldn't hurt to throw 'em in. They're not all that expensive anyway. On the premix, I've heard synthetic is not recommended for break-in...but I think I'm well beyond that! Would you recommend full synth for premix now? Might cut down on the carbon build-up right? I'm going to be getting a manual soon... I've only had my Shee a month, so I was just kinda waiting until it was broken-in to start some regualr maintenance... I think it's about time, huh... I'll probably get one this weekend. Thanks!
  24. I have a new 2004 Banshee. Had it just about a month and think I've already put 25-35 hours on it. How often should I change the spark plugs? Still seems to be running OK, but I took them out and they're nearly all black. (Carbon build-up..to be expected I guess). Gaps still look ok..no excess carbon build-up there. Just wondering if there should be a certain change interval for the plugs or just when the get "bad". Also, I think I should be due for oil change right? Once after 1st month, then every 3 months or so right? Think It would be a good time to change to some good synthetic? Like Amsoil or something? Any other regular maintenance I should check? (guess it's time to get out the maunual, huh?)
