Just realized that i've been running blaster piston with standard banshee 20cc domes in my Noss Head. I e mailed DLnoss, but just wondered if anyone on here knew the difference between the 795 series pistons and the Blaster pistons? Tore the engine down because my clutch basket exploded and now im thinking of throwing a new top end in it while im at it. there is no major wear in the cylinders so a quick hone should do the trick since im at 66mm already. Just wondering if i should stay with the Blaster pistons or switch to the 795s and my 20cc domes. Thanks

Clutchbasket and drive gear
CombatTalon2 replied to CombatTalon2's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
well both are out of machines that are 10 years old. my basket is toast. the basket on the other bike is in great shape.....so mine would be more worn theoretically. Guess i can order it and just put it on and forget it. -
Clutchbasket and drive gear

Right, thats what scares me about buying a used basket off ebay with no drive gear to go with it. -
Ok, so i need a new clutch basket, the gear on the back of the basket is toast. so i need a new basket with gear, and since im replacing that the Drive gear (the one the drives the clutch basket gear) needs to be replaced as well per the Clymers manual. Has anyone else run into this and just used mismatched gears? Outcome? thanks for any info. Looking to pick up a stock basket, hub and pressure plate from Minkia38.

Do you have the water pump gear and primary drive gear? Also the plastic water pump gear? the Clymers says to replace the driven gear/drive gears in matched pairs???? -

Hey bro. What year is that Clutch basket out of? Looking to pick it up to get my shee back together really quick. Might add an aftermarket basket, but i need the hub and pressure plate since mine are all jacked up. Thanks Dustin -
Yeah, i have been in there before......

Im wondering if i can get away without splitting the cases. just flush the trans a few times, and see if any crap comes out of it. replace the basket and put her back together. top end looks great.

Well I took the shee out for a little trip to the dunes this last weekend. Had a good time. Didn't get to ride the shee much but did get a chance to spank my buddies YFZ450. The 450 had Sparks exhaust, Hot Cams, an 06 449cc cylinder and some other work. He was talking alot of trash and the banshee held up her good name. Beat the 450 by about 10 lengths on the flats at glamis. Running a quarter mile or so in wash one. Anyway, on the 3rd race i couldn't get her into 3rd gear. I didn't think much of it, i kind of stopped, messed with the shifter and all was good for a little while. Got about half was to lizzard hill when the banshee just shut down on me. I thought the worst, but to my surprise she fired right back up, and promptly died. I could tell something was clanging around inside the clutch case. Tore her apart tonight. Found half the tabs for the clutch basket ripped off and laying in the bottom of the clutch case. Yikes. Basket is toast. Also found a needle bearing in the oil along with the spring that holds a seal tight against the surface of whatever its sealing. So tomorrow i'm splitting the cases to see what other carnage i can find. Good news is that the cylinders look great, no gouging or anything on the walls of the cylinders. Pistons look good, dark, but no signs of detonation or anything. Probably replace those since im in there anyway. Got a lot to do before Halloween weekend!

Went out this weekend friday-sunday. Holy hell it was hot. Good times though. Took a few guys out that had never been before. Sand was sooooo soft. Its always fun hitting Olds on virgin sand! Had to do a break in run on my toy hauler that i got this summer. Tested the AC and Generatory to its limits. Went thru 15 Gallons of gas just running the generator! Banshee tore up a piped/camed/ported YFZ450. Then the banshee broke. Something came loose on the clutch side. Banshee still runs, but then there is a not so normal noise under the clutch cover, and it shuts down. So i had to be towed out by the 450 i just got done whoopin'. Anyway, good trip, hot as hell. Headed out the weekend before Halloween, sounds like thats the ticket according to the Glamis store owner. They are building storage out there too. crazy shit, would be cool to just leave your stuff out there and just come out and ride. Guess they will have a delivery service to take your stuff to whatever camp area you want to stay at! http://www.glamisdunesstorageonline.com/

No reaming required for quicksand and gary can hook you up with whatever configuration you want. Stock or aftermarket shocks and whatever width you want.

Another vote for the Noss product. Bought one when I rebuilt my engine in 05. I have to say its a great product. Holds up well even in extreme temps found at Glamis in the summer!

I wouldnt recommend running just water. You need to put some kind of coolant in there usually a 50/50 mix of coolant/distilled water. Adding coolant raises the temperatore at which the mixture will boil. Water on its own will boil sooner than a 50/50 mix.

I run the Klotz supertechniplate. It mixes good and smells good. So far no reason to switch. I buy the Gallon jugs from Rocky Mountain!

I was a hold out on boots for a long time. Then i get my CRF450. I rode the dunes one time without them and decided that it really needed some boots. ankles hurt from jumping, and my legs were raw from my jeans rubbing on my leg when you squeeze the bike. I got a pair of fox boots, the first pair fell apart, and so i got a second pair as a free replacement. I think im going to upgrade when i get back to the states and get some of the Gaerne SG10s. Wont ride without them now. Even on the banshee!

I think anyone that buys a two stroke, or wants to talk about two strokes should be made to read some "important info" about two strokes before they are allowed to talk about them. Just bored and surfing the web from Afghanistan, found this on Craigslist and had to laugh! http://tucson.craigslist.org/mcy/281624768.html

How about a search......

Drill a hole in each nut from one flat to the next flat. Then safety wire the nuts together.... probelm solved!

yeah, it took me awhile to get my shee to run at KP....still smoked my brother in law on his C'dale up pipeline!
-
KP is alot of fun, i may be making a trip out there with my brother in law when i come home in june/july time frame. KP is fun, but I'll still take glamis. Bikes run better at sea level, and you cant beat the weather in the winter. I was there for new years, 70 during the day, and 40s at night.

cool, how about some stats? Whast the Dia. of those blades? how tall, how much power output? I know there are a bunch of those in Cali on I-10. They are huge!
-
i zip tied a little hook to my floor fan in the garage, i just hang the filter on it and dries pretty quick.
-
I never really rode the bike before Gary martin (quicksand motorsports) did the carbs. He said it would make a differance and it does run very good.

I have a Banshee and a CRF450. My 450 has all the "free" mods (re jetted, air box opened up, baffle removed) You can see my banshee mods in my sig. Anyway, my 450 will walk my banshee on desert surfaces anyway. Dunes might be another story, but i have never raced my bike vs. my banshee in the dunes. I did however get beat racing up China wall by a 10 Mil Stroker Cub....but only by a bike length!!
