  1. Here's my dilema. I'd like to have the PRM cargo rack but the dang thing sticks 3 feet off the back of the quad (well almost). I was thinking of trying to fabricate one that would basically be a normal grab bar but then have the rack bolt on above the grab bar so that it sits partially over the rear seat/fenders. The "grab bar" portion would handle all the stresses from standing the quad up or flipping it while the rack would just be built to hold the forces trying to throw the cooler/gas cans. Does this make any sense to anyone? Also I'm thinking I'd like to attach the cargo rack using pins so that it could be easily removed for when I don't need to carry extra junk.
  2. Better remove your reverse then.
  3. My (ex-stripper) wife will be there so thats at least one girl. She'd probably go for a wet t-shirt contest but not if she was the only girl.

    Case Saver

Kenr74, I just bought a cooler from him on Sunday and hadn't received a single email from him. I finally emailed him to ask if he'd even gotten my payment. He said he shipped it already and I should have it by the weekend. Maybe he just gets busy and doesn't email just to say that he shipped. Anyway, I'd wait until Friday and see if you have it by then, if not then email him. I noticed his case savers are nylon while some of the others I've seen are billet. Anyone know if one is better than the other? I would think that they'd both work but the billet has the bling bling, while the nylon is probably easier to trim if you need to run an oversized sprocket. I'm guessing here though.
  5. Elka shocks seem to be the most popular. I'm still running stock so I couldn't tell ya much, but I will say that the suspension works fine for normal riding. Any quad will benefit from suspension/A-arm upgrades. It all depends on what type of riding you're going to be doing. Most people seem to upgrade the front, the rear is okay so you don't have to drop too much $$$ in one go.
  6. I'm in. Maybe we can plan a little caravan for all the socal people to cruise out there together. That way if some people have transportation issues we can chuck extra bikes on those with vehicles/trailers. Also, anyone thinking that it might be a good idea to have a whole new forum set up just for roostfest? That way it'll be easier for people to check out what updates are going on. Just an idea.
  7. I brought the manual with me to work and did some reading. Unfortunately the shee is at home so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to run some tests. I'm thinking that its not normal and not a good thing (damn!). So its either that the tie rod attachment holes on the steering stem are worn or cracked (hopefully not $$$) or the tie rod ball joints are worn. This blows, money is fun to spend on mods, not so much with repairs. If they're just worn I think I'll still go riding this weekend, just have to take it easy. If its cracked then I'm gonna have to pimp my wife out all weekend to buy a new stem.
  8. Yup, both sides. Alignment is okay. The problem only shows itself when the bars are turned all the way to either side.
  9. I just noticed today that when I turn my wheels all the way to one side that the inside tire (the one on the side that I'm turning towards) can move freely all the way until its rubbing on the A-arm. This doesn't seem right to me but I just got the thing so maybe that's normal for some odd reason. I've got the old J-arm setup but those don't seem to have any slop. Instead, the extra movement is coming from where the tie rods attach to the steering stem. Both wheels react the same: the outside tire is solid at full turn but the inside one has like an inch of slop (tire movement, not tie rod movement). So is something f'd up?
  10. Hey I read around on here that you shorten swingarms. Do you still do this and if so what's the going rate? I use my shee for trails and dunes mostly with an emphasis on jumping the hell out of it. I'm planning on doing the J to A arm conversion and getting some +2,+1 arms after tax return time. So should I think about shortening my swingarm now or wait until after I've got the extended A-arms? I was thinking -2 max, maybe -1 or -1.5. My goal is to make it a little more manueverable and give it a tad better control while airborne as well. Upcoming engine mods are probably going to be limited to: adjustable timing plate, noss 21cc head, and maybe some new low-end pipes since mine are f'ugly.
  11. Ok now lefty's response was funny. If I really was as much of a geek as some people claim that I am, I'd correct his post and paste it. As is lefty, I think you could actually be more efficient if you spelled phonetically and saved yourself the time in typing all of those superfluous letters.
  12. Yup just rub the mother's on with a rag. The instructions say until it turns black, I've found you can actually go a little longer to save some time. But after the stuff is getting soaked up into the rag, grab a clean rag and buff it out. Keep repeating this process until you've got the shine that you want.
  13. What is it with this forum and people not using a single punctuation in their entire post? Maybe its just me, but its tiring trying to read a paragraph with no periods, commas, or question marks. Punctuation and/or spelling errors are one thing, I can figure out the general point that you were trying to get at. But when you complete a thought, type a fucking period in, its only one extra key!
  14. Hey nightrider, where'd you get the foam from?
  15. Attention all residents of Kentucky: there's a free pair of shoes for the first person to find them out in the mud near the airport. Ask Can-i-bus for size.
  16. Ya but that's like the argument of not wearing seat belts because sometimes people are ejected from an accident and escape uninjured. While its true that this happens sometimes, its like for every 700,000 accidents that kill non-restrained passengers, 1 survives uninjured because he was ejected. I can think of a few times that a helmet has probably saved my life, or at least saved me from having an f'd up grill. The screwed up thing about drinking and riding is that your likely to take out somebody who's being responsible and just out there minding their own business. If you wanna get smashed and ride, go ahead, but do it where the only person that's gonna get hurt is you. Sorry for the rant, but its early and I'm stuck at work.
  17. I had a bike that was doing that once. Turned out to be a weak ignition coil. I guess that although it was sparking, it wasn't quite enough. Before that though, I'd check and make sure you've got good fuel and check the compression while you're at it. Shitty compression can make it a bitch to kick over. Also you could maybe check that your carbs are in sync. Not sure if that would make the difference but maybe...
  18. Also stand up when you go into the jump. It'll be a bitch to get a decent jump when your sitting down.
  19. Yup. They've outlawed any OHV that doesn't meet a certain emissions standard. This includes all 2-strokes and a handful of 4-strokes. The way to tell if your quad is outlawed is by looking at the VIN #. If the eighth digit is a "3" or a "C" then your vehicle is a red sticker. Red stickers are only enforced in some riding areas (read: most riding areas) and the dates that you can't use them vary. Usually red sticker bikes can't operate May thru Sept or so. It's absolutely ridiculous since your campfire at night produces more pollution than every 2-stroke out at Glamis on Thanksgiving weekend! Interestingly enough, the law has caused the price of '02 and older bikes to surge. Bikes that are 10 years old are selling for $900 off of a brand new one. California is sofa king we todd did.
  20. Where's everybody staying? If I go I'll probably be by myself but I've got a 250r friend that might make it as well. I just don't want to go solo only to have to find a bunch of retirees on 250ex's to putt with. If I do go I probably won't get there until Saturday morning.
  21. Yeah that's correct. You should use the minimum octane that you can get away with and still not have any pinging. Any higher octane and the only extra combustion you'll have is in your wallet.
  22. They're all over ebay for anywhere from $10 to $30. I just ordered an 18-fin yesterday for $15 shipped. If you buy em at your local shop you'll pay about $30 for an 8-fin...go figure.
  23. Also if you're in California you'll get tagged with a red sticker on the new banshee. This means that you can't ride it all summer. 2 strokes older than 02 are exempt and get a green sticker.
  24. Ya I know. But I grew up riding the mountains of Santa Clarita so it was a little nostalgic. Besides it seemed fitting since up until a couple weeks ago, that was the last place I'd ridden a quad - some 10 years ago.
  25. It really depends on if the back end is shooting up as you leave the jump or after you land. Can you clarify?
