Thats a good point holyman. Does anyone have any experience with the J arm conversion? I'm just wondering how it compares to the A arm frame. Does it look like an extra chunk was welded on there or is it more or less the same frame design as the A arm version? I've seen the pictures but I don't have an A arm frame on hand to compare it to. I'd forgotten about the axle carrier until you guys mentioned that. But it seems like it wouldn't affect me if I'm just buying the frame and reusing the swingarm. Agree?

Ok I've been trying to research this but half the websites I go to say their front sprocket will fit an 87-03 banshee and the other half say that it will only fit 92-03. So what's the deal? Is the sprocket on my 87 different from that of an 03?

I've got an 87 banshee that I was thinking about changing the frame on. Yes I know about the $160 J-arm to A-arm conversion kit, but I noticed that frames on ebay aren't much more expensive. So my question is, aside from having to get the upper A-arm assembly, are there any other subtle differences between an '87 frame and a 'newer than 1991' one? Bolt patterns (especially engine mounts), pipe clearances, bearing sizes, geometry, etc? Reason why I want to do it this way is so that I can have a project bike that I can slowly build up as money allows while still being able to ride all the time. Then when I've got it all built up the way I want I can just take the last few pieces from my '87 and go.

Ruby Cny. was kinda a bummer. Every one of the little side trails has completely overgrown so you climb up a steep ass hill and 100ft into it, it ends! Plus since I was flying solo I didn't wanna get too far away from the truck. Anyway, I did write down the directions. 5 north to Castaic, exit Lake Hughes Rd. - go east. Reset tripometer at bridge over Castaic Lagoon. At 11.5 miles, turn right on turnout and drop down hill to the creek. Don't forget there's more riding on the left hand side of Lake Hughes Rd. about 200 yards past Ruby Canyon.

I'm heading up to Castaic tonight, with riding tomorrow. If anyone's free tomorrow (or tonight even), you're welcome to join me. Riding is mostly fire roads through a forest/high desert setting, several stream crossings, loose dirt and some harpack. Try emailing me at [email protected] If I've already left then you can try to find the entrance to the riding area. It's been awhile since I was there so I can't really remember milages or landmarks but I do think there was a sign that said, "Ruby Canyon" at the entrance to the riding area. To get there, take the 5 north to Castaic, exit lake hughes road and make a right. Continue along lake hughes Rd. up into the hills. Ruby Cny. will be on the right side after about 20 min or so. There's a turnoff and the dirt road goes down from there to the campground. If you see Warm Springs Camp (on the left) then you just passed it. Here's a topo map of the area. Ruby canyon is the small road in the lower right portion of the map. Topo map of area click here Cya

Sounds fun, where are the questions going to be posted? -
Hey I'm in the South Bay too (Redondo). Lemme know anytime you're up for a ride, I need to find some riding buddies on quads to compete with all my friends on bikes. I used to live up in Santa Clarita so I know all the hills back there fairly well. Rower flats is only one of the better known areas, there's some really great trails out over near Castaic as well. You can actually ride from Lake Hughes Rd. in Castaic almost all the way to Pyramid lake. There used to be a ton of riding in Santa Clarita but alot of it has been developed. I'm not sure how much of drinkwater flats (between San Francisquito Cny. and Bouquet Cny.) is still accessable but there's a ton of trails out there as well.

Assuming you do all the prep work yourself and just drop off the sandblasted frame at the powdercoating place, what can you expect to pay? Also what about the swingarm?

Temp gauge should be the first thing. All the mods in the world won't help shit if you end up overheating and killing your engine. Its nice insurance when you start messing with air filters and pipes so that you don't run it lean and overheat. You can buy em for $30-80 or you could make your own using a meat thermometer for about $15.

One Lil Question Bout The Torch Lights Fo Tha Shee
Wallrat replied to bignasty1's topic in General Banshee Discussion
check out 4 Wheel Parts They've got an alright selection and they're located all over the place so you can go check out the lights in person instead of just internet shopping. Also as a side note, more wattage isn't a good thing unless you upgrade your stator. A set of 35w lights (same as stock) will outshine a set of 55w lights on the stock stator. I've got some 8" Pro Comp lights in the stock location with 35w bulbs and they do a pretty decent job given that they were only like $35 each. One of these days I'd like to rewind my stator and throw on some 130w bulbs -
Well ideally I'd want cylinder head temp since this would be the best place to indicate if there's a problem. If my memory serves me, the hose from the heads to the radiator is the one that enters the top right corner of the radiator. That would be the one that I'd splice the thermo into.

I'm looking at gauges to install on my shee but I need to know what the max temp should be. I found a sweet solar digital gauge at my work but it only goes up to 158*. Will this be enough or does the banshee normally run hotter than that?

I have no life so I tracked down the link for you. J-arm to A-arm conversion how to buy the conversion kit here

Idles Runs Strong But Now It Wont Die.

Not sure I understand which wire that you're saying is too short. If your talking about a ground end that just needs to be grounded, then you can just attach it at any bolt on the frame. Chip away a little paint if need be to get a good connection. If your talking about the wire to one of the switch harnesses being to short then just grab some wire of the same gauge (wire thickness, not the insulation thickness) from a hardware store and splice it on. Depending on how good a job you want to do, you can just twist the wires together and wrap it with electrical tape, or you could put a wire nut on the splice, or go all out and solder the wires together and apply heat shrink tubing to seal it up and make it look professional. -
Even if there is a kit out there, you'll still need to have mounts welded onto your frame. I saw a write up online where a guy did just that. He bought an A-arm set and welded the brackets onto his frame. Looked pretty good actually. Try doing a yahoo search. Either that or borrow a buddies banshee (or go to the dealership) and take measurements like crazy. Then just buy some a-arms off of ebay and macguyver it together. But definately get it welded by somebody that knows how to weld, that would blow if one of the mounts snapped while you were haulin' ass.
