I had that same 2 into 1 setup on mine, because thats what Jim recommends but i could not get rid of that flat spot, put on the pods and away we go!!

ive got the same problem. mines got a bog in the middle and i cant get rid of it. its startin to piss me off. i have tried the needle all over and cant seem to get rid of that dead spot. wish i could, itd be nice to be able to go from a rolling start and whoop some ass. I've tried to jet out that flat spot for months and couldnt get it out untill i changed the airfilter setup. If your not running K&N clamp ons then i suggest you give them a try. As soon as i went to clamp ons and jetted back to 178's and 48's with needle in middle position the flat spot was all but gone! I think i could probably fine tune it with a little richer tapered needle but it's running so good now i've decided to leave it alone

I have cpi's on my bike and love them, it flat out rips. CPI makes an awsome pipe and put them on Jim's motor and they are even better.

Need to know more information with your mods and pilot jet. Remember that the pilot controls the jetting till about 1/4 throttle then the needle controls to about 3/4 throttle then the main jet controls wide open throttle, so where are you having the problem at?........ -

If it just broke the flat piece on top then you should be ok but next time you might not be so lucky, if it rips a hole into the engine case then you have big troubles. You might want to put in a case saver to protect the cases...a small inexpensive piece of plastic could save you costly repairs. -
The needle is just held in by a spring loaded keeper....just use a phillips screwdriver and push down on it while turning it about 1/4 turn then the keeper will just fall out along with the needle....simple.

Right on! Those big carbs have alot stiffer springs in them, when I put on the 34's my thumb got real sore real quick then went to a twist and I'll never go back to thumb. The twist throttles take about......oh.....1 hour to get used to

peaked out at 79.5 on dyno but was too lean to ride, high 70's and rideable now

First of all 220's are way too lean for k&n and pipes, keep the 280's in there. The choke tube is a little black hose that connects the 2 carbs together, it is located on the side of the carbs, it will not start without it. -
Anytime you increase the airflow of your motor your gonna have to re-jet, although i dont know what size fmf likes but you'll definately have to re-jet.

If it has a sputter in the midrange then try leaning out the needle 1 clip by moving it up a notch closer to the blunt end. Generally you'll need to lean the needle when you add after market reeds because of the better fuel flow.

Yes just turn the black choke knobs counter clockwise for higher idle and pull straight up for choke.....

Wicked Products makes a good arm. I bought chrome ones from them and have no probs and they are very strong, I put them to the test once and they have not bent or anything.

50 pilot is prolly a tad on the rich side, I had 45's before i went to the clamp-ons now i'm at 48's.

Wrap it around just tight enough to slip it back into the silencer but not so tight that it chokes it.

I also heard that the PJ carb is very finicky and the idle curcuit interfers with throttle response. I have my idle shut completely off and all seems good now.

Dude for 4 months mine ran like shit too! I dumped the 2-into 1 air set up and put on individual k&n's, lightened the flywheel, went from 175 mains to 178's with 48 pilots and now it is like a totally different bike! For the first time in 4 months since i got it back from Jim i'm finally happy, it pulls like a mf'r.....dont give up.

Dump the airfilter setup and put on some clamp-ons with 178 mains and 48 pilots and you should be real close. Mine ran like shit for 4 months untill i went to the clamp-ons and what a difference it made, this motor needs to breathe.

Mains will play a big part in the midrange, kinda sounds rich to me. What are your current mains?

Actually i do not have a print out i dont think they had it hooked up to a printer...but i did get to look at a bunch of graphs form it and it peaked at 79.5 with 45 ft lbs of torque and they claimed that they tweaked with it for 2.5 hrs. When i took it to them it had 3 1\2 inch runners going into a single k&n filter with 175 mains and 42 pilots and the base run on the dyno was 71. They went to k&n clamp-ons and leaned it out to 172 mains and leaned the needle with CGL needles and bumped the pilots up to 48's and got it to 79.5 hp. When i took it out for the first ride after this it ran like shit, i went up to 178 mains and back to stock CEG needles and it runs awsome, better then it ever has so im guessing im still up in the high 70's for hp.

I had that same dead spot before the powerband and for 4 months of trying to get rid of it now it is finally gone! I jetted and re-jetted till I was blue in the face, went up and down on the pilots, tried different needle positions and different needles and still could get rid of that flat spot Finally I went to K&N clamp ons and lightend the flywheel and after 4 months of tweaking with it I'm finally happy My jetting now is 178 mains and 48 pilots and it runs like a raped ape ALL throughout the powerband.
