Frogger Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 Just like it says, anyone prefer a stock flywheel over a lightened one? Quote
Bansh-eman Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 it depends on your setup, what kind of riding your doing, and the rider weight. Quote
Frogger Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 Yeah I know there are some things that need to be factored in when deciding whether to have it lightened. I was just seeing if someones gone back to stock after having theirs lightened. Personally I've got a dune port and weigh about 165lbs. I do some racing but felt like trying a stock fly wheel again to see what the bike likes. Quote
J-Madd Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 This is a controversial topic. My 14 Mil Cheetah, allegedly built by Dan Hull, didn't have a lightened flywheel on it (nor did it have straight cut gears.) Not sure if that was an oversight, or if parts had been stripped off of it, or what. I put some straight cuts on it, and left the heavy flywheel. I couldn't be more pleased with its performance. Then there's the PVL, with almost no rotating mass.... Quote
dajogejr Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 I've got hundreds of passes on my bike and know what it runs with a stock flywheel. I'm a fat boy at 250lb. I am going to get a stocker shaved and put it on my bike....just to see what it does. Then I'm going to switch from my lockup (slingshot) back to the direct drive.... I want to see first hand how rotating mass on BOTH ends of the crank effect the bike. Between my old DD lockup and my current slingshot, times have NOT changed...despite the slingshot with both ball bearings being heavier by quite a bit. Quote
Frogger Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 That's more like what I wanted to hear. I'm like dajogejr, want to see for myself if I can tell a difference and see if it better fits my set up. Quote
