UNCC Grad Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 My local tire shop can get me a good price on 20" Carlisle Turf Tamers or Badlands. The Badlands look real similar to holeshots. For all around trail riding which would be the better tire? The turf tamers are 3 ply while the badlands are 2 ply. Quote
LiftdT4R Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 I dont know anything about the badlands, but TurfTamers are mad old school. They are hard to get traction on because the knobs are too close together, but a lot of guys will cut knobs out here and there and Ive heard then they work decent. Quote
mdhc500 Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 The more ply's the better IMO. I ride rough rocky trails and if you are running anything less than 4-ply your side walls will be toast in one ride. I see LOTS of guys EVERY weekend with flats... I should set up a tire slime stand in the parking lot... I'd be rich!!! lol... Seriously though, buy the tools you need for the job... If you are mostly 2 trackin and have nice wide smooth trails you will be fine. But if you ride rough rocky trails like the Michaux State Forest has, get some 6-ply tires... You might save a few bucks now, but after you start pluggin and tubing your tires it will cost you more in the long run... Just a thought. Quote
bbcmudtruck Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 As far as dirt drags go you can't find a much better tire than the old turf tamers. For trail riding I would go with the badlands, if those are your only two choices. Ryan Quote
