MUDDUCK BANSHEE Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 THIS IS MY FIRST POST AND MY FIRST BANSHEE, BUT FIRST I WANT TO SAY IS HQ IS THE SHIT, YOU GUYS ROCK. SO ANYWAY I BOUGHT THIS BANSHEE FOR $1,000 I RODE THE CRAP OUT OF IT FOR ABOUT A TOTAL OF ABOUT 12 HRS. {ABOUT FIVE OUTINGS} THE LAST DAY I RODE IT WAS BOGGING HARD GOING UP SOME STEEP HILLS SO I GOT HER HOME AND WASHED HER AND PARKED HER IN THE GARAGE AND CAME OUT THE NEXT MORNING AND SHEE WOULDNT START. I WAS GOING OUT OF TOWN FOR OVER A WEEK IN A FEW DAYS, AND I HAD TO WORK TILL THEN. SO I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER FOR A QUICK FIX (STATOR, PLUGS,CDI ????) SO I THOUGHT. WELL THAT WAS WAY BACK ON JULY 15TH! THEY CALLED ME UP 8 DAYS LATTER (WHILE IM ON VAC.) AND SAID IT HAD LOW COMPRESSION. 90 AND 96 PSI ??? SO THEY SAID I NEED A NEW TOP END JOB PRICED AT ABOUT $800.00 FOR STOCK PISTONS AND OTHER CRAP. ME BEING A SUCKER AND MISSING MY SHEE I SAID JUST DO IT. I CALLED THEM UP TODAY AUG.13TH AND ASK HOW ITS GOING AND THEY TELL ME THEY WHERE WAITING FOR A COMPRESSION TESTER FOR THE CASE ITSELF TO SEE IF THE CRANK SEALS ARE LEAKING? A MONTH LATTER AND STILL NO TEARDOWN???? I JUST WANT IT DONE RIGHT AND I DONT THINK THEY ARE THE ONES TO DO IT.. ANYONE KNOW ANY PLACE IN ST. PAUL MN THAT CAN HELP? ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT IM GETTING VERY ANGRY AT THIS PLACE. THANKS AND SORRY ABOUT THE LONG POST. MIKE Quote
714banshee380 Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 First of welcome to hq, You will find alot of useful information on here and there are aton of smart guys who know alot about motors on here. In my opinion you should have not taken it to the dealer. First they say top end, next its crank seals, and it keep sleading to another. A new top end for 800bucks? You can replace a top end for way cheaper than that by getting the parts yourself. But i dont know what to say now that you have already spent the money. I guess now is just to wait? Quote
MUDDUCK BANSHEE Posted August 14, 2008 Author Report Posted August 14, 2008 IM ONLY INTO THERE DIAG. LABOR BS SO FAR THEY HAVNT EVEN TORE IT DOWN YET. YOU THINK I SHOULD PAY FOR THE BS THEY DID AND JUST START UPGRADING EVERYTHING MYSELF? PORTING, PISTONS, HEAD, CRANK AND JUST SAY F IT AND GO ALL OUT? CUZ 800 BUCKS COULD ALMOST BUY WHAT I WANT FOR NOW. WHAT ALL DO I NEED? Quote
Bansh-eman Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 i didnt read your post but i have two things... first off turn off caps... thnx second, the only time you should let the stealership do anything to your bike is when you enjoy getting raped. Start reading around here and asking questions these bike are VERY simple to do the work on Quote

IrideA250R Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 (edited) hey man, go get your bike from that dealership (god I can only imagine which one...I hope not Tousley!). Tear the cylinders off yourself and send them to a reputable builder for a bore job + pistons + port job. 90 and 96 PSI is low, but go elsewhere. You can also build a leakdown tester yourself (just do a search) and do it yourself. Honestly, I don't own a leakdown tester yet, and haven't really needed one. It's fairly easy to tell when you have a leaky crank seal on the transmission side because you suck tranny fluid, and on the stator side it will go lean and high idle etc. I highly doubt this is your problem. As far as builders, I've had really good luck with Dan @ Patriot Racing, Dan Hull 2 A&S, Dave Moore at DMR, Jeff at FAST, and Brad Tyson at Tyson racing. There are many more too that do business here. Unfortunately I haven't found anyone here in the Twin Cities yet that I trust to bore my cylinders, so for a few bucks I'll just send them out to be done. A Banshee really isn't the bike to own if you don't want to get real involved with them, and learn them inside and out. I don't live too far from you, so if you're in a bind I can lend a hand as well. Good luck, and get that bike away from the dealership! Edited August 14, 2008 by IrideA250R Quote
dajogejr Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Way to step up Iride....very nice of you to offer... They're called the stealership for a reason. Only time I use a dealer for anything is warranty work... Quote

RollinRhino Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Well let us know what happens... Buy a manual for your buggie. Take it to the dealer if you don't have a specific tool and KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT THEM TO DO. That is the only time I take it to a dealer, also I let the local one who has a dyno tune my bikes when I do something that requires jetting changes and I need it setup right. Its worth the 150 bucks to me for that, but most everything else I have learned on my own. (yes, you'll make mistakes, but their is a lot of experience that posts on this website that can be the voice of reason to get you on your way) Learn to do it yourself. You'll know it was done right, and you get the satisfaction of accomplishing what looked to be a big deal. Quote
