No Limit Powersports Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Putting a head on is a great mod to start with gives you almost unlimitless adjustablility on your compression and squish for future mods. Can you bolt one right one with no mods? Yes nothing else is needed. As far as picking a dome this is a very broad question, what gas you going to run, are you going to port, are you going to stroke all of these things have to be considered when choosing a dome. If you do decided to do a stroker a +4mm stroke 5mm longer rod is the most common and you will need either a spacer plate or special cut domes to compensate for the longer stroke and different pistons to compensate for the longer rod. A head timing plate and pipes are all great starting mods and the jetting should be checked/addressed with all of them. Hope this helps Quote
hyperlite33 Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Between the head and the reeds, I noticed on my bike a bigger increase in power and crisp throttle response with the VF3 reeds...just swap them with the stock reeds, only mod would be to cut your stock intakes which Vforce explains in the directions. Not saying the head is bad, I just found in my application the reeds made a bigger difference...if you haven't taken off the TORS yet though, I would do that before either of these mods... Quote

hyperlite33 Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 Yeah the VF3 are the cages and the reeds all together. As for the billet intake...don't get it unless you are getting bigger carbs and need the bigger intake. You don't need the reed spacers with the VF3's. There was a thread about removing the tors, but I am pretty sure the instructions with the tors removal kit will explain it...definetly the first mod though unless just going around the whole removal and get new bigger carbs! 4stroker Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 hey mate are you on ozatv.com at all? get a noss head with 20cc domes, and a cheap timing plate and set it at +4. rejet to suit and use BP 98 fuel. with your pipes this will put you at about 42-45hp. if you want another 4-5hp, add vf3s and bigger carbs. if you still want more power, get a stroker crank, pistons, a port job and new domes. how much horsepower you have then will depened on the port job/type of riding you do, but would be at least 60hp, and at the most probably 80hp!! oh yeah even with the first few mods you will need a heavy duty clutch. good luck, mark. Erwin8r Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 (edited) I think it depends on your current jetting...they may lean it out a little bit, so if you are on the rich side you should be fine. Mine actually richened the bottom up a bit, so you'll need to double-check after installation. I have the VF3s, and used a billet intake designed for VF3's simply because I didn't want to go through the hassle of cutting my stock intakes (its a pain in the rear!). I also installed a set of Keihin 29mmm PWKS--this was probably my favorite mod (after exhaust) as it completely simplified tuning and gave me very crisp carburetion. At the very least, get a TORS removal kit and dump that ugly crap that lives on top of your carbs! You can find most of these things cheap on eBay (I see tons of carbs, etc. on there regularly--matter of fact, there is a nice set of Mikuni TM 28mm's on there right now...), and you'll learn a heck of a lot by replacing the parts. I've also had great luck on here with fellow HQ members and good deals on good parts. Edited August 15, 2008 by Erwin8r Quote
