screamningthrottlebanshee Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Hey guys help me out, tuned in my banshee tonight, got it running like a champ. I went to go shut if off for the night and it wouldnt shut off, I stalled it, then kicked it over in the "off" position and it started, so i traced my wires back and all seems ok, Headlight part of the swtich works and turns the lights on and off.... The kill switch is clean and makes contact when its "on" and dosent make contact when its off. ( switch seems to be working OK) Anyone else had this problem or anyone have any suggestions on what to try? My clymer manual dosent really have much on this specific subject. Thanks Quote
Face Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 My '89 did the exact same thing when I got it. I always had to stall it to shut it off. I tore the switch apart, cleaned it and bent the contacts and still nothing. I ended up paying a guy on here $5 for a new switch and havnt had a problem since. my advice, find a new one and stop racking your brain! Good luck man. Quote
BenBB Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 It's either the switch itself or the black/white wire somewhere between the CDI and the switch; it works by telling the CDI to shut down when black/white is grounded to either black or the frame (or to black via the switch). You can try to test the switch with an ohmmeter to see if it makes a complete circuit between black/white and black, like at the connector behind the radiator, it should be open circuit when "on" and closed when "off". If that's not it you'll either have to trace that wire in the harness or use a tester to narrow it down (like check for continuity between black/white at the CDI plugin, harness side, and the handlebar switch connector, harness side). Good luck. Quote

LiftdT4R Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 That type of switch is referred to as a normally open switch. Like Ben said, if the ciruit is borken (ie Open) the bike runs. If the circuit is somehow closed (a short somewhere) the bike won't run. What's happened is your switch, or wiring somehwre can't close/complete the ciruit, so your bike won't turn off. This usually comes from a bad switch. There is too much resistance from crud/dirt/water to effectively complete the circuit and switch the bike off. Buy a new switch and you should be ok. Quote
