HiRoller Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 When I get back from a ride and know that I'm not riding again for a few months, I completely drain the carbs and tank (and burn up the remaining gas in my truck). The night before its time to ride again, I fill the tank with fresh premix and she fires right up and runs fine. The next day I have a BITCH of a time getting it started. What I do is turn the throttle wide open several times, full choke, close throttle, kick it a few times and it will start at a low rpm for a few seconds then die. It won't start at all with the throttle wide open. When it starts I give it a little throttle but it'll die. Repeat process for like a half hour and she'll finally start with enough rpm's that I can work the throttle and she runs fine the rest of the day. Seems to be starved for fuel because after turning the throttle many, many times it never floods and I rarely smell gas. It has new spark plugs. Any ideas? Quote
fastbanshee8 Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 Take both carbs off, one at a time, and remove the float bowl. Take out the main jets, and the pilot jets, and clean them really good, especially the holes that run through them, and also clean out the passages that they screw into. Put everything back together, and adjust both air mixture screws 1.5-2 turns open. Make sure both are opened the same, and don't forget to put the choke tube back in place, if you're using the stock carbs. Hard starting is usually a sign of being too lean. Try the stuff above, and let us know. Quote
BillyRay Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 I have learned that if I choke my quad and do not open the throttle it starts much faster. Opening the throttle defeats the choke circuit and makes my quad very hard starting. Quote
350power Posted July 21, 2008 Report Posted July 21, 2008 yo sounds just like mine. is your parking brake set. if its not then it wont start. It has a rev limiter on it that wont let your banshee power all the way up. Anyways thats what happened to mine took me forever to figure it out till badassbanshee told me. Quote
HiRoller Posted July 22, 2008 Author Report Posted July 22, 2008 Thanks for the replies, I'm pulling and cleaning the carbs tonight. And the parking brake has been removed. Quote
HiRoller Posted August 3, 2008 Author Report Posted August 3, 2008 OK I cleaned the bejeebus out of the carbs (completely disassembled and soaked all the parts in Simple Green overnight). When I finished putting the bike back together it started on the 3rd kick and ran like a champ. A couple days later went out to the dunes and still basically the same problem. Would not kick start at all first thing in the morning and had to get a tow to bump start it. The rest of the day it started on the first kick but didn't run right. First it was bogging at WOT, then it ran OK for a while, then the last hour or so it bogged at all throttle positions. I pulled the plugs and they are both dry as a bone. Next up I'm checking the reeds, compression, and spark. Quote
sandunagen Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 i have the same problem. called a guy at the shop he said, pick front end up for few seconds drop it down and kick it over. this works however he couldnt tell me what was causing the problem. Quote
HiRoller Posted August 16, 2008 Author Report Posted August 16, 2008 Think I found the problem- the reeds were completely soaked in oil and felt sticky when I pushed on them. Maybe they were stuck shut. I wiped them down, put everything back together, started it up and it runs a lot better than it has been. Revs real quick and peppy. I'm going for a ride next weekend with fingers crossed. Quote

Face Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 Soundl alot like a problem I was having. I ended up taking it to a shop and they found that I had burned a wire with my pipes. I was still getting really good spark but it ran like SHIT like you are saying. I had a new wireing harness put in and it made all the differance in the world. You might want to look at the electrical system. Hope you get her running dude! Quote
