I have owned a few, but I am new to the modding end of things. I drag race Mustang's, so I have the know how.

I just bought a super clean 2001 with a melted piston. I am looking at my options to get the thing back together. What would you guys suggest for parts? When done I want a nice trail machine, that can take out "most" quads on the trail.

I don't want to spend a ton right off the bat. Maybe just small upgrades for now, and later I can do a complete 421.

I already have the complete FMF exhaust setup.

Thanks for your help guys!

Would just a nice cylinder head make sense on a other wise stock upper end?

I was thinking maybe doing stock cylinders with pro lite pistons and a decent after market head. Would that mated with the exhaust be a decent horsepower jump over stock? And could I still run 93 oct with that head?

Again thanks for any help!

I would have a nice port job done to the cylinders while you have it appart. After pipes, a port job is the next step up in power. A head will add midrange but wont be as noticable as a port job.

When you port the cylinders they opean up the ports wich change the durations. It is like adding a cam shaft to a 4 stroke.

New prolite pistons

Port job from HJR (cheap and quick turn around)

A Noss Machine head if you have cash left over from the port job. If not a shaved stock head will do.

If you just send the jugs to kevin he will bore them to the correct size and will have the pistons on hand and probably cheaper than most places sell them for.

I would get the Hot Trail port or the Dune Port job if it was me.

Sounds good. I will need to get some stock cylinders, I didn't get any with it.

There is a guy selling a complete top end for 750. It is dune ported by HJR. Bran bore and 64.25mm pistons so the jugs have plenty of life. 66.5 is max bore size.

HJR Dune port job 300

Rebuild Kit 295 From HJR.

Shaved head also comes with it.

So you would be paying 155 for the cylinders.

That rebuild kit comes with gaskets so you might see if he would thow them in for you.

700-750 would be a resonalbe price for a ported top end ready to run. Pluse no waiting for poring. HJR has a 2 week turn around time were big builders say 2-3 months but usually end up 4-6 months.
