is it possible for the engine to run but not fire right on one cylider if the stator is goin bad? everything but the lighting circuit ohms out within specs but i have repaired the coils. i know i could use a new one but just want to know if this could be causing the problem.

are your plugs ok. even if you installed new ones still check them by removing one at a time and check for spark then swap them to see if the problem goes to the other cylinder. happened to me once. i was stumped for like 3 days.

but yeah the stator can fuck up the firing on the cylinders.

i have changed plugs and swapped plugs but still have the same issue. im goin to look for a new stator and see what that does. i tried the coil also but still no change. this is the only thing i can think of unless the cdi is bad.

I had a similar problem, but it turned out to be a big air leak from the base gasket on the cylinder and I would only get a pop and sputter at certain rpms, might be worth it to do a leak down test to make sure your not getting air in.

No. Each time the coil fires, it fires both plugs. Unless you have a bad plug or wire, spark will be going to both cylinders. :geek:

i know the coil is good because i changed that. the plugs are new also. how does the coil know when to altenate that spark? isnt that controlled by the stator?

Like I said, Each time the coil fires it fires both plugs. This is a called a waste spark style ignition. :geek:

The CDI has no idea that there are even two cylinders on the bike. All it sees is on crank position and the duration between seeing that crank position. :geek:

so this would tell me that my problem cant be anything ignition related. i guess i need to work on the carbs some more or something.

Unless you have a bad spark plug or spark plug wire, then yes it is not iginition related.
