hey hows it going guys, i found a set of oko carbs for sale, there 30mm and fit the stock boots and filters, ive been thinking about an agressive trail port job, case work, and milled head, and while its getting ported might as well get it bored, its stock bore now, dont know how much over i should go, but thats another question down the road......so the mods i have now are toomey pipes, vf3 reeds, pod filters, aftermarket cdi, and the boost bottle. with these mods, plus the new port, bore and shaved head, would a bigger intake suit me bettter stuffed with bigger carbs, or would my stock intake and 30's be alright? also a couple mods i am thinkg about is adjustable timing plate, and cpi's(can anyone get away with using pump gas with tthe timing plate, if so i wont shave the head, if not i guess i will deal with it)I would like to get these carbs and would be hard to pass up because of the price, but in a couple months will i have to get bigger ones. a couple differant variations here, so thanks in advance.

ok im gonna try to break this down for you..

1)boring is NOT necessary unless you need to rebuild. it wont give you anymore power by boring to the next size, so scrap that idea.

2)lose the boost bottle. it does nothing for you and gets in the way. go back to stock crossover tube.

3)i would run 33mm pwk carbs. they are good size for stock stroke and some porting all the way up to 4mm cub motors. ive seen 4mm motors run hard with them. they are a good investment and youll save money in the long run if you ever decide to build a big motor.

4)timing plates are great add-ons. increase timing will increase performance, but you need to bump up the octane in your fuel.

5)i would skip the shaved head and go for a NOSS head. better cooling and you can change your compression ratio. doing this in combination with your timing plate will make it worthwhile to run race fuel. you can probably get away with running a 50/50 mix of pump gas/110 or 112 octane.

6)which toomeys you have? T5 or T6?

7)the rest of your mods sound pretty good. i would check more into your porting and decide what youre gonna do there before you decide on pipes and other intakes.

hope this helps. hollar with any questions..

t5's, as for porting, i ride 50-70% in trails, and half of that 50-70 is first gear and second gear, the rest is pretty wide trails so i can bomb them pretty much, and the rest of the riding is at the track, so im not sure what kind of port job i will get, i would assume an agressive port from hjr, as for the boost bottle, ive heard that enough times....its gone.

the 30's have some credibility, at least in this forum, im not trying to cut corners here, but why buy a product(33pwk) for 3 times the price,(plus i would have to get bigger intake)if the 30s will work, which brings me back to my original question?

Will these 30's work?? when you say the 33's work fine on the stock all the way up to the cub, there has to be a half-way point there, where my 30's would fit right in, to edit my first question, would a port job require a bigger intake?

i run 93 sunoco right now, theres a local airport near by, where i can buy 110, so the timing plate is on my list for sure\\

the only reason for the shaved head is because if im going to ship the engine out there(im in maine and im shipping it to cali BIG$$$$) might as well have them do it, how much could it cost?? 50-75??

on the other hand it would be nice to change out the domes if i needed.....

thanks loco

Yeah, Locos on the money.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

As for the carbs, The 33mm pwks are tried and true. I say it's better to save up and buy quality than to rush and buy cheap stuff, if you have to have the carbs now, 30s are 30s, it is what it is. Better than stock, yea, but with the port, I would say a little restrictive. And as for the port job itself, 70% trails, get an MX port or recreational port, has good low-mid-and top. My MX port is awesome for trail riding and blasting the straits. Pulls hard all the way thru. An aggresive port tends to be more on and off, like a light switch, like braaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP. You know......My dune quad is a 421 cubby and it is like that, either idle or WOT, no in between, which I love for dragging. I would save $$ , do the port, get 33s, PT mids or any good mid pipe for the trails and track, Noss head, Timing Plate, and yea, get bigger intakes, even with the 30s. It always best to do it all at once. But back to your questions, the 30s would be fine, get the correct intakes, and the shaved head and all, but if ya take your time and do it right, you'll be alot faster and more reliable in the end.

Good luck bro...... :flamewar:
