rubberneck Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 just bought a 97 banshee and want to get rid of the on/off switch and key and just run a kill switch. any help is greatly appreciated Pull the key switch off, and unplug it at the plug below the fuel tank. Clip the plug off from the main harness and solder the two wires together. These wires are black and red/black. Your key switch is now eliminated. Now remove the run/light dimmer switch from your handlebars. The plug that it plugs into has 5 or six wires if i remember. the yellow, green, blue, and yellow/red are all for the lights. if you dont run lights, just insulate these off. What you want is the ground (black) and the kill wire (black/white) Run one wire of your kill switch to the black, run the other wire from your switch to the black/white. You are done. Here is a link with a wiring harness and some FAQ's that will back me up. the thing to know is that the key switch wires must be connected (grounded) to run, whereas the on off (kill switch you are installing) must be open to run and closed (grounded) to kill. Hope this helps http://www.bansheehq.com/index.php?option=...2&Itemid=28 Scroll down to the end of the link and there is a modified wiring diagram that shows the wiring for the exact scenario you are wanting (assuming you arent running lights) Quote
KaosBanshee44 Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 If you want to you can also get a pro design or vitos teether swtich http://www.prodesignracing.com/main.htm and it just plugs right up to the wireing harness but you will still need a engine kill button. I got the killswitch with a KX250 engine stop button paid 16 bucks for it from rocky mountain atv. So for under 50 bucks you can get rid of the stock shit and the key area on your bike and just have aftermarket stuff that hooks up directly to your harness. Quote
dajogejr Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Get rid of both. Find the black/white striped wire in the harness, hook a tether kill to that and a frame ground. Done...pull the tether when you want to kill it. Quote

To me i would still have it anyway so your not constantly pulling the teether and putting the pullcord back on. Bam a little button kills it. Quote

I must have misconstrued some info between the 5 people in chat that night. lol Sorry for the mix up! I find it to be a pain in the ass as well, I hate puttin that tether on and off evertime you get off the bike. The dirt bike kill switch makes for a nice clean look. Quote
