sinisterboo Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 I have my wifes 94 tore apart trying to find out why we have no fire. I have tested the coil, tried a different coil. tested source coil, and it reads 11ohms. supposed to be 13-23. is that low enough to cause it not to fire? or should i test my cdi? and yes, the tors is all dissconnected! thanks, shaun. P.S. now wifey has a adjustable timing plate  Quote

Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 yep... My cdi took a shit while I was warming it up. It ran for like 45 seconds and died. I replaced it with a GYTR and have not had a prob since. I thought it was the stator but I replaced it and still didnt run,,, Quote

Dinner Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 CDI will fail yes. I just had a fella I know off 3wheelerworld come to my place today to try out my CDI on his wife's Banshee (both 87's). He could not get spark on his wife's banshee, replaced some electrical parts, tested out the whole system and it was all coming up good, still wouldn't fire. Tried my CDI and shee fired right up. I would suggest seeing if there is someone close to you or even a shop that might let you borrow the CDI just to see if you get spark. Quote
sinisterboo Posted April 13, 2008 Author Report Posted April 13, 2008 the problem is that its a 94 with the round plug, and everybody i ride with has newer bikes with square plugs. anybody on here have one? im in tulsa ok. Quote

Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 I ended up getting a whole new harness off e-bay and then bought a new CDI with the square plug. Quote
Dinner Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 I ended up getting a whole new harness off e-bay and then bought a new CDI with the square plug. Hmm, what year was it the plugs all changed over? My 87 CDI has 2 square plugs, and it worked on another 87 wiring harness :ermm: Quote
Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 97 is the first year of the newer style plug. I got a harness off a 99 for like 20 bucks. Quote
dajogejr Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 There are three styles of plugs fellas. 87 to 94 95-96 (Which, I have...the bastard years...lol) and 97 to current. Quote
