Hi Guys, wondering what the best mod would be for a trail rider? no lid? modified lid with outerwear? pods with outerwear? we usually run into mud and water on our trips, although a lot can be avoided.

Whats your opinion. Thanks

I ran a river bed for years that had quite abit of water with the airbox lid off k&n with outerwear and adaptor with no prob. Just cant haul ass through water like a jet ski lol. I would not suggest pods with any water at all

cut a big hole in the top , through both layers of plastic,i did mine about 7-8"x4" then get an old outerwear would probaly work the best, and cover the hole with it, or like i did i took an old 2 stage foam filter, took the outer layer, cut it out to fit over the hole and secured it with nuts/bolts and little metal brackets to hold it down that i got from walmart for like 80 cents a peice, they are pre drilled with 4 holes in each one, u can get them anywhere, about 4" long, they work great

i tried removing the snorkel, adding vents in the lid and side of the box just below the lid and didn't really notice much difference. if you want it to really breathe well just ditch the lid, but make sure you have a pro design adaptor plate and filter set up, or similar set up, since the stock set up is pretty much junk. i try to avoid deep water but don't have any issues with mud or dust, etc. i leave the drain catch on the bottom of the box off too so if anything does get into the box it will fall right back out.

Don't bother with the lid. get the K&N filter and adapter, and for saftey get the outer wear. When you get more mods done, go with pod filters and stay out of the mud and wet stuff.

if you ride trails that are anything like riding in my area, it's impossible to stay out of the mud and wet stuff. i would think that the foam filters would be better for the kind of debris you may be getting into it, rather than a k & n style filter. either way, keep it cleaned regularly and you should be fine.

don't forget that anything that you do to increase air flow will also require rejetting to compensate for it.

retune??

what do you consider retune to be? if you don't change jetting after increasing air flow it will be running lean and cause major issues.

Thanks everyone, i will scrap the lid and pick up a filter and adapter, jetting will be on the list as soon as i get her back together, again thanks for the replies.

If your concerned about water, but wanting plenty of air-flow, you could also consider going with an E.H.S. outerwear lid. I run one on mine and it works great, and looks trick, too.
