jet mech Posted April 5, 2008 Report Posted April 5, 2008 My rear brake drags on the outboard pad, anybody know the deal. Quote
BellicoseBanshee Posted April 5, 2008 Report Posted April 5, 2008 The caliper piston could be hanging up somewhere, not retracting completely, warped disc, bent bracket. I would suspect a stuck piston if no visual damage is obvious... Did you remove the pads and inspect anything yet? Maybe a foreign object has lodged itself behind the pad. Quote
jet mech Posted April 5, 2008 Author Report Posted April 5, 2008 well I have looked around but don't see anything and the caliper retracts cause the pad that is on the caliper side is not wearing as fast rotor is not bent so I don't know. Quote
BellicoseBanshee Posted April 5, 2008 Report Posted April 5, 2008 Do you know if the shim is installed behind the inside brake pad? If not, the pad may have too much clearance causing the outside pad to do most of the work and wear out faster. Quote
jet mech Posted April 5, 2008 Author Report Posted April 5, 2008 I installd new brake pads on my shee for the first time since new about 6 months ago. I removed the shim due to the snug fit but my stock brakes were worn the same so I don't think it is the shim. Quote
rubberneck Posted April 5, 2008 Report Posted April 5, 2008 The caliper floats on 2 pins. pull the caliper off, remove the pins and lubricate them. Quote
BellicoseBanshee Posted April 5, 2008 Report Posted April 5, 2008 Yes, you are correct, it is a free-floating caliper. A function caliper will apply equal pressure on both pads. Wasn't thinking about that when I was mentioning the shim clearance... :wallbash: Quote
jet mech Posted April 12, 2008 Author Report Posted April 12, 2008 I did the lube thing before I went riding last week and it seemed to help they do seem to corrode pretty quik we will see how long the lube fix holds up' just one more thing to babysit on the 'shee besides the 100 others !! Quote
