yup that is it. Man! I have a hard time believing that the plate is necessary. There is that little notch behind on the case that oil willdrip through onto the tranny shaft but it appears without it the shaft would get more oil. The plate seems like is acts as a shield.

 

Is it worth to retap or not worry about it?

well yamaha put it there for a reason im sure. guess you run without it and see what happens? It would bother me to leave it out, so personally, I would put it in!

The picture shows the piece that goes from one case half to the other missing. Right below the piece you guys are describing. IMO that is a very important piece. There is a lot of case flex in that area, and that piece helps control the flex....Like I said.....my opinion!!

yes, this was my first rebuild, and i fixed that right after taking that picture. Didnt go back to take another one after i put the retainer piece back in!

I agree. I didnt build my 421, thats why it wasnt there, but I do agree, that piece needs to be there.
