I am new to all of this, and have purchased a freshly overhauled engine with many mods. Before I go ride this thing, I want to see where I am at with the jets. I have read the plug chop method, and it appears you need to follow the instructions to a T to get an accurate read.

You might find this funny, but I don't think I can get to WOT in the first 2 gears without ending up on my back on pavement. If I do the plug chop test and don't use WOT until I get to 3rd gear, will that invalidate the test? Also, what are the odds of burning up my engine trying to do a plug chop?

I don't really believe in cutting a good plug up to check my jetting but I do check my jetting by running it in different specific throttle settings and checking the color of a used plug. I give it full throttle after second or third gear and run it out to check the main. If I am on sand, wheelies are not usually so much of a problem. If you have got the pilot and needle adjusted use the now proper color light browned plugs and do a short run on the main, if they lighten up or turn white you are too lean. Sometimes you will get a back fire out the exhaust if you are too lean when you pull the clutch in and kill the ignition. If the plug is still the proper brown after the short run give it a longer run, sometimes I will make two or three passes before I pull the clutch in and kill it to check the plugs.

Well, I did my first plug chop. I am guessing it would be a funny thread if a few of us idiots posted pictures from our first plug chop. One side came out fine, and the other looked rich, but the accelleration really flattened out as the RPMs got high. I need to decide if it is a carb issue, a pipe issue (I have DG pipes), or a timing issue.

You're not getting an accurate reading by using either of these methods...however, whatever works for you is fine.

I seem to get accurate jetting from my inaccurate readings. I do think, try a few different methods of jetting until you come up with a method you confidentlly feel works consistently. Pretty much whatever works for the individual.

Yea, mines a little different. My left side plug looks fine, but the right side is snow white. Yes the carbs are synced with a syncing tool from FAST. I think that its either a coil/wire problem or air fuel mixture problem..............
