running a ported 4mm with 28mm pwks and pro circuit pipes and wondering how shearers and bigger carbs are gonna run. my local engine builder suggests 39mm pwks. something tells me that will be to much carb. just looking to improve already good engine. any thoughts?

anywhere from 33mm to 36mm sounds good to me. 39mm is a bit big for that set-up. (IMO)

Thanks, yeah i was kinda thinking 35's would be the ticket. I am concerned about losing all the midrange the motor has now.

i have a ported 350 (for the girlfriend) w procircuits and have run both 34's and the 35's the 35's had a lil more top end and the 34's have better response and midrange; top end was really about the same.. i had an older motor with lower exhaust with pc's and 34's and it was wayyyyy better than stockers.

oh do you trail/ dune it lil bit of draggin OR drag it most of the time? if you drag it a LOT the 39pwk's or a set of 41mm lectron alky carbs would be the ticket.

i have a set of 34's with intakes and filter's i might want those procircuits..?

Sand only. but definately a lot of duning and some draggin. I don't think I am gonna make the jump to alcohol yet. I just don't want to sacrifice the good low end power I have now for a screamin top end beings I like to play ride more than anything. About the pro circuits they will just be sitting after this weekend. Should have pipes and carbs today or tomorrow. I will try to get a pic of them. stay in touch.

When you add bigger carbs and free flowing exhaust, it will move the power up in the RPMs.

I think 39's and Shearers will be a poor choice for you based on what you want to do, and what you don't want to lose.

However...

I think a set of Trinity pipes or Toomey T5s with some 33 or 35 PWK carbs would give you a nice boost without too much loss of bottom end.

I had 30mm okos on my 4mil. Went to the 35pwk's, didn't notice any loss in the low and mids, did notice a gain in the upper rpm's. I run t5's, great all round dune play pipe and good for dragging with friends, not a drag pipe though. If you are not ported for all out dragging, you might hurt your self with shears in the all around performance and against the same motor with a correctly fitted pipe for the porting, carbs, gearing, ect. It would require a lot more clutching and keeping the bike in the upper rpm's just to make power to play around with.

I had a bike that had t5, and then drag ported it. Switched t5's to shears and it was night and day difference, but alot more tiring to ride around and play with your buddies in small bowls or woops. Shears are great pipes for dragging. Not much time with cpi's i think they might be a compromise between t5's and shears.

The 34 or 35 carbs will not hurt you at all if you have t5's, shears or any other pipe on a mildly ported 4 mil, you will only really notice a gain and not a loss if you jet it correctly. Just my personal experience.

Compared to what you have now, with 35's and shearers you are going to probably tell a pretty big difference in the mid and especially on the topend once you get the jetting right.

The shearers really pull on topend.

Got the new pipes(shearers) and carbs(35s) on. Seems like a ripper now. Excited to try it in the sand. Maybe a little loss down low but not as bad as I thought it might be. Thanks for everyones input.
