jaredvh Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 I was looking at dropping the front sprocket to a 12 tooth but I was just wondering if that was overdoing it. I want a little more low end but don't want to lose all of my top end. What is an ideal sprocket setup that people are running? Quote

I wouldnt do that... banshees spin bad enough, dropping the gearing like that is only going to make it worse.... What is it at now? I think stock gearing is about perfect on banshees.... I can climb great with them, and out climbs are near vertical in places, and stock gearing runs great on flats... Quote
ohiobanshee Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 The smallest I would go in front would be a 13. I had a 12 on one of my bikes and I hated it. As soon as you hit the powerband it would rip the front tires off the ground, grass, gravel didn't matter it wouldn't spin, just wheelie.Hard to steer when your front wheels are off the ground. :: Quote
dajogejr Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 Put two teeth on the rear. Smaller in front is harder on the engine and it will wear your chain quicker too. Quote
nayr742003 Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 i agree with theshee i tryed a lot of different sprockets . Stay with stock ones Quote
rusty1100 Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 (edited) I think some of it has to do with you setup. I was thinking about dropping mine too, because mine wants to bog a little and foul a plug if it happens too many times, so I have to rev it at low speeds. I have a +6 swingarm and lowered so popping a wheelie isnt an isssue. I never had this issue with my other shee with stock swingarm, not lowered, etc. etc. Edited February 27, 2008 by rusty1100 Quote

Dinner Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Fix your jetting, not the gearing...you shouldn't foul plugs at any RPM..... That's right...that's like "fixing" your jetting by changing spark plugs to a hotter or cooler burning temp....the Jetting problem is still there!! I too wouldn't go smaller than a 13 on the front...I had 13/40 back in the spring and I wore out that front sprocket fairly quick. I am now running 14/40 and my front sprocket is holding up a lot longer. If you want, up the sprocket on the rear by a tooth or 2 and see if you like that. Also, you could get smaller tires if you wanted too, like 18's instead of 20's (clearance might be an issue) and then change your gearing around after that as well.. Quote
