I am looking to buy a set of carbs for a 4mil, drag port banshee with CPI inframes. My question is, has anyone tested lets say a 34mm flat slide mikuni to a 33 or 35 pwk keihin? I have noticed alot of people with the keihins. I have ran alot of smaller mikunis (28mm) before on dune bikes and have had great luck. What are the real differences between the two? How do you size the carb, RPM, CC's of the engine, how radical of port duration? Can some one point me in the right direction? Also, I have already searched this, and pretty much everything I have seen so far is- Put this carb on there because this guy said so. Thank you :biggrin:

i think its just personal preference really. some guys start out using mikunis and stick with them the same some people start out with keihins. the keihins are very common and tons of people use them. you can usually find a used set really cheap. thats prolly part of the reason a lot of people run them. with that being said i would go with a keihin 35mm pwk on your engine. they are easy to tune and we can get you right on with jetting here.

I've run both on the same setup and definitely like the keihins more. They have more adjustability and seem to respond better. 34tm flat slides bored to 35.5 and a set of 33 keihin PWK's and a set of 35 PWK's and on a 4mil duner the 35 pwk's were the best .

Thats what I'm looking for, someone that has tried them. More adjustability on the Keihins? Can you give some examples? I'f I understand correctly, on a mikuni TM, If I wanted to try Methanol I could simply change some internals (without drilling) and start tuning. Is this correct? Going from the 33 pwk to the 35 pwk, did you lose any throttle response, and what gains did you notice the most?

Unless you buy Lectrons setup for alky, you're drilling on the Keihins or Mikunis.

 

The difference is you can replace the dump tube in the Miks, not the Keihins.

 

It is all personal preference, price and availability... I agree, 35's would be a good choice for your setup...

I ran them on my 4mil cub on race fuel and it ripped pretty good.

The Mikunis change dump tubes - needle jet orafice ($16 per carb) and the Keihins change needles for the needle adjustment throttle range. It was hard to get my TM 34mm Mikuni's dialed in since there wasn't much jetting advice in here a while back. The mikuni still only go up to a 400 main size (same as stock banshee carbs) so I would guess you'd have to drill for alky.
