powdercoating banshee frame

i have a banshee frame that i want to powdercoat myself, the frame has already been preped with sand blaster and has ben dipped in the solvent. the problem is that its to big to fit in the oven. i was looking over the internet and saw some infered 1500watt heat lamps that say they cure a 2'x3' area and you move them around to cure the paint. aso i was wondering if anyone has had experience with these lamps; if so do they work?

 

it has to be abole to heat 450-400 degrees

 

if that dosnt work i was thinking about auto spraying the frame.

I think it will take more heat to activate powder coat than it will to dry paint...

 

The small heat lamps would take a LONG time to do a frame...

That heater is 150 bucks. I don't know how much powder coat costs for a frame, I assume 50 bucks.

 

You could have your frame done yourself professionally for 150 to 250 bucks...is it worth it?

I've been researching this a little bit. It takes roughly 1lb of powder to do a frame. 1lb of powder equals 2-3 cans of spray paint (coverage). Powder is around $10-12/lb. I've called a couple places for powder coating and it is around $200-$250 for an ATV frame. If you don't have the equipment and don't plan on doing a lot of powder coating, have it done professionally. I also seen in Columbia Coatings that they have a propane IR heater to cure parts. Basically it is a 2 burner Mr. Heater. Not sure how that works but would cost about the same amount as having your frame done professionally. Just some FYI.

My motto has always been do it right the first time don't take shortcuts. Especially with appearance i'm sure you can find somebody with a oven big enough and you just buy all the powder and just pay for labor.

Yeah, don't waste your money on those lamps unless you're going to shell out the $600. for a very high wattage one. I just got rid of my lamp because they're not worth it. You will end up under curing your frame and then within a day to a few weeks your coating will start to crack and chip off.

 

Where are you located? I have an oven big enough. I could do it for you for a reasonable price if you don't find someone else but not sure if you want to pay to ship it, that would be a pain.
