hollisatp Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 So I was riding and she spewed put gear oil out the overflow tube!! I figured out that my o-ring was bad on my clutch cover so it was mixing oil and coolant in the gear case... but when I fixed it, it would still leak coolant when it got hot.... I checked the head, the gasket looks warped and when I was reinstalling it after spraying it with copper gasket spray,it still would push out coolant when warmed up.. Still a leaking head gasket or is it something else?? I think my #10 stud is either loose or stripped.. it did not tighten down like the rest of them.. any help appreciated.. Not a fantastic Glamis Trip, but still cool to hang out with the bros.. Quote
MILO Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 hey bud, i wouldn't ever re-use a gasket like that, just replace it. if it still leaks it may be your impeller seal. the stock impeller is famous for falling apart and destroying the seal to the bottom end. pull the cover for it and see what shape it is in. even if the impeller is fine, try replacing the seal and bearing behind it. hollisatp Posted February 18, 2008 Author Report Posted February 18, 2008 hmm.. ok ill look at that... what about the over heating..??? Quote
gregrob Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 hmm.. ok ill look at that... what about the over heating..??? Weeelllll if the stock impeller grenaded itself, it's definitely not flowing much water and would certainly cause overheating issues. Quote

hollisatp Posted February 18, 2008 Author Report Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) I have a high flow impellor already.. do I have to split the cases again to get all the bad gear oil out or is there another way? Edited February 18, 2008 by hollisatp Quote
jbooker82 Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 I would try putting a new oem berring and seal for the water pump shaft. That is the only other place it can really leak in to the transmission. Make sure you put the seal in the right way too. What kind of impeller is it. I have heard of Mod Quad's being to soft and the Seal wears a groove in the shaft and it leaks coolant in to the transmission. josh Quote
jbooker82 Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 I have a high flow impellor already..do I have to split the cases again to get all the bad gear oil out or is there another way? Just drain the old stuff out. Then I would just get 2 quarts of cheap ATF Type F and put both of them in. Run it around easy for a little bit and drain it while it is still hot. That way the oil and water stayed mixed. You could do it a couple times if it makes you feel better. Quote
hollisatp Posted February 18, 2008 Author Report Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) cool thanks! I am not sure what brand the impellor is, I got it on ebay.. ill try to change the bearing and seal.. I found the #10 stud was backed out a bit so it wasnt down all the way. thanks for the help!! anyone know what the pitch and mm the bolt is for the jugs?? I want to get a tap kit to clean up the threads.. Edited February 18, 2008 by hollisatp Quote
