scjandllj Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 (edited) my banshee is killing the left cylinder after about 1/8 throttle. it will idle fine but pretty much anything more than that it starts back firing out of the exhaust on the left cylinder. Any idieas or common problems??? Edited February 13, 2008 by scjandllj Quote

Any idieas or common problems??? Low speed jetting (air screw adj, or dirty pilot), carb sync, fouled plug or cylinder compression...just a few things to start with. Quote
scjandllj Posted February 13, 2008 Author Report Posted February 13, 2008 i put new pluggs in, cleaned the carbs 3 time, tryed to sync the carbs as best as i could. THe guy i bought it off says it has a new top end, but i dont have a compression tester Quote

We generally have to put a piece of wire in the jet to clear it. Brandon Quote
scjandllj Posted February 13, 2008 Author Report Posted February 13, 2008 i made sure they were clean... possible that i might of missed something.... does it sound like a carb prob??? Quote

scjandllj Posted February 13, 2008 Author Report Posted February 13, 2008 i tried switching the wires and plugs both and it sill runs the same Quote
bigboybanshee Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 What kind of air filter setup are you running? I had a clogged outerwear cause these symptoms before. Idled OK but as soon as you gave it some gas only one cylinder ran worth a shit. I'd pull your air filter and run it, see if it helps. Quote
scjandllj Posted February 13, 2008 Author Report Posted February 13, 2008 yea i tried running it with it off.... does the same thing Quote
bigboybanshee Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 sounds to be electrical then, bad ground, loose connection...have you checked your pickup coil at the flywheel? Should be an .018-.020 gap Quote
scjandllj Posted February 13, 2008 Author Report Posted February 13, 2008 (edited) i will check the plug gap... both cyliders have good spark... i switched the wires ( since they fire at the same time) and it runs the same ..... Edited February 13, 2008 by scjandllj Quote
Wildcardracing Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 You need to have your compression tested on that cylinder. An other thing you may want to look at is your reeds...cracked pedal or one not sealing. Quote

Not plug gap, pickup coil gap, where the magnet on the flywheel passes the pickup coil. If it idles good on both cylinders, I wouldn't think that reeds would be an issue. Now if it didn't run well at idle, and the problem got better as you give it gas, then I would suspect a reed. Reason being is that if a reed is broken, it will bring in too much fuel, causing that cylinder to get flooded when its idling...when you open it up, it'll utilize that extra fuel and start to clean up...it'll rev like shit with a broken reed, but that cylinder will start to run if you give it throttle. See if you can find someone with a "spare" CDI you can swap yours with, just to rule it out. Quote
scjandllj Posted February 13, 2008 Author Report Posted February 13, 2008 i dont thinks electrical again because i switched the plug wires and it does the same thing!! as far as the reeds they look good to me no cracks or breaks... i'm starting to lean towards the carbs.. although there is a chance that there is low compression on the left side, i trust the guy i bought it off (he's a buddy). Any way the i was checking the manual and got into syncing the carbs. I checked the sight glass to line up the mark on the slide and they are way off!! so i started adjusting but i had problems because the glass on the left carb is scratched up. the right carb the mark barely lift into sight. help i'm in distress Quote
