okbeast Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Probably any play port would be what you're looking for. Talk to some of the site sponsors, FAST, Passion, etc. I'm not sure if they'll ship overseas but I think I have heard of them doing it before. Quote
Wildcardracing Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Make sure you find a low bore set of cylinders, probably a play, trail, wood or dune port at most for what riding you talked about. I would stay clear of drag porting. Just my .02 Quote
BigRed350x Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 I'd look for a play port or a dune port. You will see more power from a dune port. Especially with your pipes and carb combo you already have. Would make a very fun engine to ride. I agree with the other guys though, make sure you find a set of cylinders that are stock. 64mm bore and no porting. I've seen quite a few sets on ebay selling for like $250 to $300. The port job will cost you around $250 to $300 as well. What I'd do is bid on a set of cylinders on ebay, and pay for them through paypal, but have them shipped to whoever you're going to do your porting. (Contact your builder first about doing this and make sure its ok) and have them do their porting for you, then have them send them to you internationally. Just add in the price of shipping the cylinders and new top end to you when you pay them for the porting and have them ship them. - Jared Quote
Wildcardracing Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 With a dune port, I would deffinately recommend welding the crank. Quote
trex banshee Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 i don't know about either set of those cylinders...between the two the first set is better but, still kinda scary, there is no reason to make the center bar in the intake that small...and they didn't even touch the boost port above the intakes...now for the second set ...i wouldn't pay much for those at all, and to cut the pistons that much, your just askin for problems. Be carefull buying ported cylinders off ebay, unless you can contact the seller before paying. Quote
sheerider1026 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 (edited) as for welding the crank if you are a good welder you could do it yourself, the weld just has to be low profile for clearance issues, but there is one problem, if the crank is in your bike and already has ride time on it, it needs to be trued before welding it, i would just send it to jeff at fast or jim at passion, i dont think it cost very much just to have it done, i would have it done since you will be tearing into anyway, its just good insurance. okbeast Posted February 12, 2008 Author Report Posted February 12, 2008 I've never heard of having a crank welded for a port job, it's more for high compression bikes. As for Kevin Hurr's porting, he's great for his price, not 1 issue here. I even had my pistons/etc. shipped to him straight from parts unlimited for him to do the overbore. I'm sure if you got in contact with him he wouldnt mind you just shipping the jugs straight to him. I do have a buddy w/ an extra set of jugs though...let me have him get in contact with you. Quote

Is trued the same as balanced...I might wanna look around here first before I ship it overseas, the thing must way a ton and shipping only would ruin me:) Quote
sheerider1026 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 tued and balanced kinda run hand in hand, if the crank iss out of true it will definately be off balance, what hapes is the crank pins turn inside the webbing(the part that they are pressed into) then your crank is out of true(or phase). causes internal vibrations that eat away at crank bearings and seals, its just a good idea to have a welded crank, like i said its more of a insurance thing. okbeast Posted February 12, 2008 Author Report Posted February 12, 2008 What kind of compression are you running? Quote
Wildcardracing Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Do yourself a favor, talk to some builders and see if they can come up with set of low-bore cylinders. I don't know if Kevin has any(he might), but some of the builders keep cylinders on hand. That way you're not shopping for junk on e-bag. I know that Kim at K&T keeps a few stockers lyin around, but his porting is pricey. PM Kevin and see if he can hook u up. As for trueing the crank, the pins are checked to make sure they are 180 deg of each other then they tig weld them in place on the outside of the crank webs. Quote

okbeast Posted February 12, 2008 Author Report Posted February 12, 2008 If you remove them the domes say on the side of them. Otherwise the easy way would be to get a good compression guage. Quote
sheerider1026 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 if you end up needing a set of stock cylinders i have some nice ones that would be great for porting, shoot me a pm.. later, gary Quote
