well i fired up the shee last night, and the noise ive been hearing from the engine that i thought was piston slap sounds like it is comming from the magneto side of the engine behind the cover. is there anything that would make a tick sound from that area? it sounds like it ticks everytime the engine makes one revolution. can i take that cover off and run the engine? any input would be great, thanks

yes you can run the engine without that cover on. pull the cover and check to see if something is loose. there are screws that hold the stator plate on. check to make sure the flywheel is on tight. check to see if the pickup is hitting. its a ticking noise?

Yo I had the same noise and rode it until I siezed the motor! Diff story, but the noise was a timing plate bolt. It could not come out cause of the flywheel but sounded bad. I thought it was a bunch of stuff including the water pump..
