Just wanted to thank everybody that replied to my question about this topic. Turned out to be a short somewhere in my wiring harness. Bought a brand new harness from Yamaha and now she runs like, well, a banshee out of hell!!!! This is my first banshee and I absolutely cannot believe how fast this thing is with the few mods I have. K and N's, FMF pipes and a boost bottle and this thing is so friggin fast!! But you know how it goes, I want more power!! What are some other mods I can do without sacrificing reliability? Does a cool head, reed cages, or other things help quite a bit? Like I said I don't want to be tuning every ride, I just want to know if there is anything else I can do that won't make it "finicky". Thanks again for all your help! Now let's go RIDIN!!!!!

good to know  now, just strip down your old harness like i did tonight and make yourself a lightweight!

after removing the tors, lights, killswitches and all the other junk i ended up with enough wire for a second harness i had no idea....

You still got the stock carbs and tors im assuming right?? I assume so, get rid of it with a tors elimination kit, its pretty cheap and you can get them on ebay or from toomey.com for about 50 bucks for the carb caps, cables, and idle screw kits. This will eliminate a TON of problems. Ditch the boost bottle it does nothing for you, get a adjustable stator plate and up the timing. You'll see a noticable difference. If you got the dough buy some V-force 3 reeds otherwise just buy some boyesen reeds for your stock cages. Coolhead is a very good upgrade also, giving you more low end and awesome cooling. If your gonna buy a coolhead, you should also buy a pro flow aluminum impeller to go with it for good cooling and reliability. The addiction never ends!!

Good luck bud!

I do have stock carbs but with TORS elimination kit. That was originally part of my problem and in doing so I removed the park brake switch, throttle switch, and all the other saftey junk. The boost bottle can't hurt though right? It's already on and it was free soooo.... you really think i should ditch it? Also, will the cool heads or v force reeds affect reliabilty? With the price of those v-forces, will I be able to REALLY feel a difference? I own a LOT of toys and I just like to ride and do the usaul maintenance. I understand toys ARE maintenance but I don't want something that I have to constantly pull carbs on to keep it running right?!?

I've Rode Several Banshee's W/O the V-force 3's and They are fine But Definitly buy at least a good set of Boysen's You will notice a bit more perfomance and you Banshee will be more Crisp.

If Money Is not so much a Factor By the Vforce3 You'll Thank yourself down the road and if you put new reeds on anyway you may as well put the 3's in. I have run them in 2 out of the 3 Banshee's and I probably have over 800 hours of hard ridding on my 96 and never has it left me fiddling with tunning, You will have to Rejet maybe a jet size or two but the Plug chop will be the Tell/Tell sign's of proper Performance.

Once you Put the 3's in you eventually go with bigger carbs and this is where the 3's really shine. Just My two Cents worth.

the difference between stock and getting a set of boyeson dual stage epoxy reeds is night and day. If you ride tight trails and such, you'll notice it big time. It will increase your throttle response drastically, and your shee will do what you want it to, when you want it to.

As far as the vforce's go, going from a aftermarket boyeson reed to the vforce, I did notice a little bit of difference, but it wasnt drastic. I'm sure when I start running my bigger carbs, I'd feel a bigger difference if I made the jump after I got the carbs.

I would go with reeds, timing plate (+4), coolhead, and if you ride in muddy/dirty conditions a pro design foam filter kit and remove the air box lid (they make a good outerwears cover for the boxes now), or run a K&N filter if your in sandy/less dirty type environments. The power difference of removing the lid is quite a bit, a good 4-6 jet sizes sometimes.

When it comes time to do a rebuild eventually, go with some porting and carbs, and inbetween now and then, maybe get some a-arms, shocks, tires, some bling, and theres a million other little things that help. Just depends how far you want to go. The sky is the limit. I'm building mine right now to go over anything, climb anything, take a beating and keep going, and making it reliable as hell.
