smokin350 Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I have a 5 gal drum of castor 927 pre mix that has been sitting in my garage for 3 years and I was wondering if the oil is still good or does it separate!!! Going to glamis should I not chance it? Quote
theshee Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 so its got gas mixed in it already? I would never use 3 year old gas, if its just the oil I would use it, but not if its been mixed already. Quote
smokin350 Posted January 14, 2008 Author Report Posted January 14, 2008 No I would never use pre mix that's been sitting for 3 years, its just the oil so I guess I'm good? Any others opinions? Quote
KaosBanshee44 Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Oil keeps all the light ends in it for example gasoline has alot of light ends in it which causes it to evaporate. Oil isn't like that the only thing oil does is hemogenize which goes into layers or seperates the API structure especially that long. Just make sure you shake it up good before you use it but you can definitly use it. Quote
KaosBanshee44 Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 O pre mix, sorry i didn't notice that when yall were talking about it. Yeah i'm pretty sure the gas has evaporated the light ends and don't have the octane it used to have. Like they said if it was just oil i would use it. Quote
smokin350 Posted January 14, 2008 Author Report Posted January 14, 2008 Thanks for the help guys I guess I'll use it, saves me some money on oil especialy since I need enough for 50 gals of gas!!!! Quote
kawiking Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 hell no.... 3 years ??? if i have gas 6 months old its going to the lawn mower !! even 8.00 race gas ..... 6 months is as long as i go, in gas cans, 3 years , id toss it. if it doesnt burn right and you toast ur motor, your going to be pissed because its nothing to pour out and buy some new gas. i spend about $200 on race gas when i get ready to go to little sahara. Bansh-eman Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 there was a post about oil seperation many months ago, there was a guy that was a chemical engineer that chimed in and talked about how oil seperates. see if you cant find it. i also thought that you could just shake the oil up but from what he said is you cant remix it by simply shaking it.
