frickstyle Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 The shifter seal is leaking bad on the 'shee. The previous owner said he punctured the seal and dug it out, then pushed the new one into place. Is this possible? Is it necessary to remove the tranny, crack the case, and remove the shifter shaft to replace the seal? Quote
Bill Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Nope just get the old one out with A curled pick and put the new one in,no need to split the cases. Quote
NYUK Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 you can do it with a t handle corkscrew. hook the old seal with the corkscrew, pull it out. to install the new one, just find a socket the same diameter of the seal slide it over the shift shaft, and gently tap it in place using the deep socket. theshee Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 pull the shift rod out, pick the seal out and put a new one in. No need to split em. we posted the at the same time NYUK, but that would be a very easy way to do it. Good thinkin. Quote

Hilarious Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Thanks guys, I appreciate the help, BTW, is it possible to pull the shift rod out of the case while the trans is still assembled? No need to split cases to pull the shift shaft. You gotta pull the clutch basket/ring gear tho. Quote
sheerider1026 Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 just leave the shift shaft in there.. just pull the seal and reinstall like nyuk said, he is right. i would rub a little silicone on the outside of the seal where it mates with the case, just in case the case has been galged before, just cheap insurance to prevent a leak!!
