NitroTate Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Ok guys, I haven't messed with porting really at all before, even though I've rebuilt these motors quite a few times and this is the only banshee I've ever owned (had her for 7 years now). So with this said, I've never seen a stock (non-ported) cylindar before so I don't know how to recognize the difference of a mildly ported one... The guy who owned it before me said that it had been ported and that the initials engraved in the side of the cylindars (DBP) stood for D&B Porting. I can tell these aren't very heavily ported but can any of you tell if they are ported at all?? If you think they are, what kind of port do you think they might be? (ie. dune, drag, etc.) Quote
00tbanshee Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 yes they have been ported not very much but you can tell they opend the exhaust, transfers, and intake.also they have added worm holes on the intakes.i would say its probly like a play port. Quote

Ok, that's kind of what I figured. I've seen pics of agressive ports and this just didn't look like it was ported very much. What do worm holes do for performance, just curious. Thanks!! Quote
WALLACE84 Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 (edited) I would say its a clean up Edited January 7, 2008 by WALLACE84 Quote
theshee Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 I would say its a clean up Yeah they look like it... You going to have that bad boy ported while its apart? Quote
KaosBanshee44 Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Port it some more, you won't regret it! Quote
NitroTate Posted January 7, 2008 Author Report Posted January 7, 2008 Yeah they look like it... You going to have that bad boy ported while its apart? Yeah I think I'm going to. I know a couple people who will port for me but not sure who I'm going to send them to. My buddy I work with is one of the main timing and scoring officials for supermoto races accross the country and he has a good freind who is a Banshee guru. You guys may know him, (shit for all I know he may be a member on HQ...?) His name is Tom but I think he lives out east somewhere now, used to live here in Colorado. But I do still have a local option here in Colorado, Jason from Berthoud (can't remember what his screen name is on HQ sorry...). I'm trading him some powder coating for a few parts here and there so he might be willing to hook me up also. Either way I'm definitely going to get them done. (if I can afford it... broke as a joke right now :ermm: ) the wifey got laid off Quote
BigRed350x Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Heres a pic for comparison... this is from a set of cylinders from colorado performance. Real strong dune port. The company is now closed unfortunately or I would send you to them. Quote

dajogejr Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 You guys are really missing the point.... I know the pic is just for reference Jared, but there's more to porting then just the intake...actually, a LOT more. The size of the transfers and more importantly the height/width of the transfers and exhaust is a lot more than just grinding a blade into the intake bridge... I agree that it's a cleaned up cylinder, the boost ports, finger ports or worm holes as they're called are supposed to add a little bottom end in a motor that is lacking just that (no power valve)... However, there's a lot more to it than that. Also...and NYUK pointed out in a thread somewhere...you can't tell how a motor is going to run by looking at ports. You could look at a port job and think Stevie Wonder held Ray Charles hand with a dremel while having a seizure...but they could run like a raped ape. Quote
gumby6t9 Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Also...and NYUK pointed out in a thread somewhere...you can't tell how a motor is going to run by looking at ports. You could look at a port job and think Stevie Wonder held Ray Charles hand with a dremel while having a seizure...but they could run like a raped ape. It also depends on which one of them was having the seizure... or both of them, and the time at which they were having the seizure and the durations of the seizure(s)... LOL Quote
dajogejr Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Or if Ray was on the smack or not.... Quote
NitroTate Posted January 7, 2008 Author Report Posted January 7, 2008 LOL, Yeah I understand that the transfers etc. are more important than the intake itself. I was really just curious how much was done to mine because it looked like something had been done but didn't look like it was very drastically changed so I'm pretty sure I'm going to get them done more. And yeah, the pic was just for reference. Your real power is in the exhaust and transfers. But everything has to work as a complete package. I had some horrible looking cylinders on my 87 and it ran freakin awesome, even with the stock pipes on it! Quote

The company is now closed unfortunately or I would send you to them. You have a nice set of ported cylinders there, so I have to ask... Why didn't you port the pistons so they would match up with the cylinder porting better? It looks kinda restrictive when the piston post is open to the intake tract. The Wiseco Racer's Choice HP series 842s have a wider piston port and a narrower bridge between each piston port so even they do it!! Opening up the piston port and matching the skirt cutaway is a mod I've done to my Yamaha 2-stroke 2 cylinder motors since my first RD-350. I can't say that I've ever experienced a piston failure because of this mod. I'm not saying I haven't experienced piston failure...just look at my avatar!! You don't change the top or bottom, just widen side to side a bit... Just don't go crazy!! Edited January 8, 2008 by jayzx750 Quote
