scooter6101982 Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 how much is too much compression for a stock crank thats nto welded im at about 560 above sea level im thinkin of gettin a noss machine head is a 18cc dome too much i know ill have to run race gas thats not a big deal any help would be appreciated thanx Quote
Bansh-eman Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 there is really no established number, but i would have even a bone stocker welded. its just cheap insurance to know the thing isnt going to seperate. Quote
scooter6101982 Posted November 30, 2007 Author Report Posted November 30, 2007 where and how much would that cost i deff wanna have it done i also heard that a welded stockers is as good as a wiseco or any other aftermarket crank any truth to that ? also im jus lookin for a opinon i guess on whats too much my buddy runs 19s on his wit a vp c12 like i said fuel doesnt mean much to me anyway Quote
Bansh-eman Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 a good weld is a good weld on a stocker or after market. it doesnt do anything to make the crank more powerful it just holds the pin in the webbing so it wont seperate. the hotrods welds are crap. you can send it to almost any builder and have it welded. most will charge 75 bucks or so Quote
scooter6101982 Posted November 30, 2007 Author Report Posted November 30, 2007 im gonna have to look into welding the crank for sure if its that cheap i knwo banshees arent cheap by anymeans jus wanan make mine reliable and have good power Quote
dajogejr Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Honestly, it's luck of the draw. Some have run aggressively ported motors on stock cranks for a while...but I've seen stock motor bikes with an air filter and pipes start to separate the crank. When you start getting aggressive on the compression and timing, it's just good sense and piece of mind. Normally...when a crank comes apart at 10,000 RPM, things won't be pretty.... 75.00 to 100.00 is the nominal charge.. Just make sure they weld the inner and outer webs... I've seen cheapo Uncle Ed's shop with the buzz box arc welder only do the outsides, and done poorly... Quote
scooter6101982 Posted November 30, 2007 Author Report Posted November 30, 2007 i deff do not want a cheapo weld job i want somethin thats gonna last and hold the crank together any rec on who i can send it to shippings gonna b a lot though but o well also can u pull the crank out of the cases with out taking the top end apart? Bansh-eman Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Jeff at FAST, A&S, K&T, Redline, the names go on and on... just find a reputable builder that you like doing buisness with. Quote
dajogejr Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Shipping will be 15 bucks or so... If any of those guys are too busy, I can get r done for you... Quote
Washburn Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Like stated its luck of the draw. I have a Noss Head 20cc domes and +4 timing advance 1849 above sea level and Im still good with 93 my compression is 157ish each side and I push the Banshee to its limit often reving to high working the clutch alot ect... However, I am going to start buying VP110 6.50 a gal, and start mixing 1 to 3 just to be safe. I definatly want to get my crank welded but Im not just gonna tear it apart to get it done. Ill wait untill I need a a rering on my pistons (Ill buy new at that time) then get her welded. Hopefully by then Ill have enough money to build my 4mil GNCC stroker (: titties Quote
kawiking Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 if you know how to split the cases and put everthing back together ,you may want to do it over the winter. my stock crank seperated last year . my pipes started shooting out glitter !!! head, piston ,crank, and fly wheel ..screwed . so u may want to think aboput it, it may save you some cash in the long run .
