toyotaman Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 ok im about to give up. i got an o4 banshee that loves to have sand in its diet. it keeps sucking in sand from somewhere around the carb and i have no clue where. its got the stock 26s on it with the tors removed. i also have a K&N in the box mounted on it but i cut the box off so its just one big filter coming out the back. i had this problem once before and my motor blew because of it. it had the stock tops on it and the left side had a defective seal so i figured that was the problem. i replaced them with the tors removal kit and have had no problems up untill now. i was pulling the carbs to rejet and found sand built up all around the slides on both carbs this time, primarly the left carb though.i checked everything over and havent been able to find a cause. no visible leaks. i have and outerwear on the filter and i clean and oil it regularly. is that something im missing or what. i dont want to keep sucking sand in my motor, as you all know they cost a hell of alot to rebuild. any help would be awsome, thanks  Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I had the same k&N Pro Flo adaptor kit & the same problem. The oring behind the plate was not sealing. Removed the adaptor plate, layed a bead of black RTV gasket maker. Shaved off the excess when it dried. No more sand problems. Quote
BLUE STREAK Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 pod filters. super simple 2 filters clamped right to the carbs. only one joint to seal. I cheeped out and bought uni pod's they seem to work but they pick up a lot of dirt because of the sticky oil. kn seem like the best bet. later Quote
dajogejr Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Yep, if you've already removed the whole airbox, there is no reason to try and deal with two boots AND the Oring. Just get pod filters....and outerwears... It's cheaper than a new top end and lower end bearings due to a healthy "sand"wich diet (Sorry, had to...) Quote
shanYE west Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I used to run the pro-flow plate.. If your not running through water or mud I would switch the the clamp on's. Much easier to work with when you need jetting changes. If your going to keep the box, I would put some grease or RTV on that o-ring to help the seal. Quote
Coupelx Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 are you running an outerwear on the filter? if not that is probably why, k&n's are porus. i personally run cheap pantyhose on mine. keeps my filter sexy and clean  Quote

DILUSI Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 sounds like u have it all under controle but we cover out intakes with a stocking and it seemed to take care of the dirt entering the airbox and doesnt hurt the performance of the motors. we rap them up over the boots at the carbs so theres no leaks and everything out side the carb is covered. Michael Jackson Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 (edited) I had the same k&N Pro Flo adaptor kit & the same problem. The oring behind the plate was not sealing. Removed the adaptor plate, layed a bead of black RTV gasket maker. Shaved off the excess when it dried. No more sand problems. i second that, samne with my kit i bought years back, the o ring was not thick enough and really wasnt even touching the back of the box, so i sealed it up with RTV, never had any dirt or dust in the intake again ops didnt see you solved the problem, cracked intake huh, did you have a boost bottle on there by any chance?
