rtcc Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 Sorry about the dumb question but Im pretty new to the internal workings of banshees. They seem so simple, is why I am asking I guess. Cause I am having some serious problems getting mine to idle and the last thing that was done was put a new cdi box on it. It plugged right in so it has to be the same as the stock one right? Also, I noticed that I dont have headlights now, havent checked the bulbs though. Do they ever start crapping out a little at a time or do they usually just die all together? thanks guys Im just thinking everything through with this thing trying to get it running. Terry Quote
dajogejr Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 What kind of CDI box, and what did you do with the old one? there is a regulator that plugs in (silver box) right next to the CDI, did you accidentally unplug that? Try new bulbs...too. CDIs are like women, unpredictable at best, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't...and sometimes they'll half ass work ... There are a lot of things that could make the bike not idle. Plugged jets/dirty carb. Wrong pilot jets. Wrong air screw setting, clogged air filter, old/stale gas and oil in the tank, fouled spark plugs... The list goes on....but those are the things I'd check first, free...only your time is involved. Its a stock CDI, I can get the numbers off of it if I need too. I know is said denso and also have yamaha sticker on it. but yeah, I am waiting on new jets and I am gonna rework the carbs and try that first. I have a thread going in the jetting section about all this, but I was just thinking about my cdi and whether it could have any impact on this. Its not like the cpu on my truck were if controls everything, so I was just kinda wondering how much of an impact it has on the idle. I get a really strong blue spark from the plugs. The jets will be here today so that is my next task. Quote
dajogejr Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 Hard to say...but, you have other, cheaper options to check first. Also...stock coils are known for having the end caps that snap onto your spark plugs go bad, as well... throw that on the list... Quote
Screaming Yellow Zonker Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 CDI is just for the spark C= capacitive D= discharge I= ignition Was your bike sitting for some time? I would check your pilot jets for something blocking them. take a small piece of wire and run it through them. If your idle was good before this is where I would start. Quote

I looked through them and they seemed clean, but I am still having idling problems. I have new ones coming along with mains so I will take it all apart and clean it all again. This is getting old, I just want to ride the damn thing. thanks for the help Quote
Animalman294 Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Yeah, thats what I was wondering is if you are still running your T.O.R.S.. If so rip that shit off and get rid of it............. Quote
blowit Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Idle problem is probably because you either have a clogged pilot jet or the TORS system is doing its job because there is a throttle cable problem or not enough slack in the cable. This is allow the bike run normal until you completely let go of the throttle and it would kill the bike unless you get back in the throttle. B Quote
rtcc Posted November 9, 2007 Author Report Posted November 9, 2007 Tors is unplugged, and I have it running now. I actually rode it around the yard last night, jetting is still off I need to check all that later today. It hits the pipes hard though, ripped my arms off. but my headlights still dont work, just enough power to make them glow but not produce light. Could this just be the voltage regulator? They are getting power so its not like somethings unplugged. thanks Quote
