rubberneck Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 Anybody running one of these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...527510&rd=1 What do you think, worth the money, or should i stick with stock? Quote
Bansh-eman Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 i saw that and was thining about getting it but it doesnt make sense casue your swinger has a zerk in it , i dont recall if a stock swinger has a zerk or not. either way 60 bucks for a bolt ... no thnx. the stocker dose fine just fill it with as much grease as you can before putting it on... lonestar Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 (edited) I got one. The stocker swingarm has a zerk for the needle bearings. O.D this bolt greases the inside I.D. inside the pivot tube and dose the O.D at the same time for easy removel. IMO it's worth it. PLUS it's stainless no rust Edited October 22, 2007 by lonestar Quote
NYUK Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 you can drill a stocker and insert a grease zerk. Quote
dajogejr Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 You can drill and tap both ends, put a plug in one, a zerk in the other, and drill two or three small holes in the bolt so you can grease it. We used to always do that. Word to the wise...take your time and use a drill press...that bolt is hard as all hell.... Then just get both ends chromed... Quote
Bansh-eman Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 i cant remember off the top of my head if the stocker has a sleeve or not. but if it does it "should" have holes drilled through it so the grease gets to the bolt as well.. but its been a long time since i looked at a stock swinger so i cant remember for sure if thats how its setup... either way unless your riding in mud and water alot then there is no need to keep pumping grease in there... you can just pack the thing with grease when you install it and it will be good for a season easily. now if your in mud and water then it might not be a bad idea. lonestar Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 I thought about putting grease fettings on the stocker. For $60.00. plus stainless it's worth it. I live over here in new England. I try to aviod water & mud as much as possible. AS fare as i know every swing-arm that I mounted has a pivot tube. You need that grease in their. That same company also makes stainless a-arm upper & lower bolts also. Well worth it IMO Quote
NYUK Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 there is no grease zerk on a stock swinger. the last 2 bikes i parted had the pivot bolt rust welded into the sleeve. a sledgehammer wouldn t budge it. i had to break out the old sawzall.the heat that must get created at the pivot point when riding hard over years must be incredible to weld that bolt. This post makes me nervous, i pulled the nut off and the swinger bolt didnt want to move. I was tired anyway and decided to quit for the night, so i didn't try the "heavy" persuasion yet. LOL I will keep you posted. Hopefully no cutting tools will be required.LOL Anyway, thaks for all the info. I will start with getting the thing apart and go from there. I may just drill and tap the stocker if I dont have to kill it getting it out. phil Quote
Bansh-eman Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 they can be a pain in the ass to get out even when they arn't locked in there... so you could still be ok. Quote

I'll bet you you'll find rust starting to form on a brand new machine in that area, write off the show-room floor Quote
