RIPRuck Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Rebuilding me and my sons motors and just cant do much without an impact wrench/gun  Nobody I know has one so I figured whats the lowest I could spend for something decent to do the work I need. Does this compressor put out enuff to break those bolts? Was thinking about these.. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_0...s+%26+Inflators This Impact wrench had good reviews for such a low price, will the compressor work with this? http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_0...d=impact+wrench Thanks for the help.. theshee Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Those will work well together. The pump will run quite a bit on a small gallon tank, but it will get the job done. That tank will still run at 90psi, so it will run that impact well. We use a little 1 gallon compressor in the dunes and can run an impact with it. Quote
Ricehater Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 that compressor will work fine but..... the problem is air tools use alot of air and the smaller the tank the more you will be waiting for it to fill back up ... you might loosen one bolt and have to wait 2 minutes for it to build up enough pressure to loosen the next one and a good impact wrench is priceless buy a good one and you will be VERY happy buy a cheap one and you might as well not even have one Quote

I'm not removing Freightliner wheels as a profession. I will look into the compressor thing but this one will most likely do for what I need and sure it could be used for other things while at it. Thanks for the heads up though! Quote
RIPRuck Posted October 16, 2007 Author Report Posted October 16, 2007 Here's another one but the tank might be too small.. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_0...=air+compressor Quote
Ricehater Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 I am just saying that if you do anything automotive a good impact can make your life alot easier... i think i spent 150 on my impact and i have had bolts that it would not remove if you are just using it for your banshee you will probably not have any problems ... i would spend the money on a good torque wrench Quote
kaotik1 Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 What about just using a cordless impact ? They are pretty decent and cheap too. Quote
Ricehater Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Any tank that will get you around 120 psi ok .... the problem is.... lets say you want to use a cutoff wheel.... it cuts good for about 10 seconds then you get to take a brake for 2 minutes while its building pressure ... i use my tank alot and the waiting kills me You will be fine with either of those tanks and that impact but if you plan on using them alot spend the extra money Quote
Snopczynski Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 I have almost the exact same setup, it will work fine. That gun is ok, but, every once in a while I have to bring home the polyeruthane ingersoll gun from work. Quote
Dinner Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 I have almost the exact same setup, it will work fine. That gun is ok, but, every once in a while I have to bring home the polyeruthane ingersoll gun from work. mm Ingersoll Rand...that is the impact I have coming right now..it was on backorder Has 650 ft lbs forward, 750 reverse...and then if you hold it on a bolt and push somewhat hard, it will kick its self up to 1000ft lbs reverse to take nuts off. So hopefully it treats me well. But yes that set up will work good for you, especially if you are just using it for your banshee's or even your own cars. Then later down the road if you ever wanted to upgrade, you could get a larger tank/larger gun. Just remember to add some oil before each use to the gun, this will help keep it together for much longer. And being as nuts on banshee's, etc are not really over 325ftlbs, that little 1/2 will work good. Just remember to get some female adapters, teflon(or some sort of sealant to seal the female adapter into the gun) and an air hose, lol. And as you said you arn't removing large truck tires, or things like that. I'm sure you will like the purchase, good luck! Quote
RIPRuck Posted October 16, 2007 Author Report Posted October 16, 2007 Thanks for all the help/input guys.. Quote

This is the impact gun I have and my 3/8" air ratchet is of the same series: Ingersoll Thunder Quote
