slowpokebanshee Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 it's an 03 z-400 (wife's bike) and last season she started complaining that while going up/down dunes and pulling in the clutch, the bike would stall, and would not re-start unless she gave it some throttle, runs fine, but stalls, I cleaned and serviced everything (twice) and still have problems, I did find that the throttle cable was frayed at the carb end so I replaced it, and it still has the same problem, today I played with it, and if you start it up it idles fine, but if you shake the bike, it stalls, and you have to give it maybe 1/4 throttle before it starts again, now I have not change any parts since new, it has a yoshi slip on and no lid on the airbox, and foam filter, we ride at glamis/sea-level, I think the main is 160, and pilot is 22.5 this problem developed late last season, and we are going to the desert again this weekend, and would like to figure it out oh yeah, I was convinced it was an electrical problem, so I disconnected and serviced every electrical connector on the bike, with dielectrical grease, and no improvement, any advise would be appreciated, oh took it to the local Suzuki Dealership, they tried to get me to Adjust valves, new chain and sprocket, carb svc oil change and spark plug, for strters, and then they could further diagnose the problem.......the bike has less than 20 hours, and has not been ridden hard, I drain the fuel every ride, and bought a Clymers manual, still can't figure it out. thanks for the help....... p.s. I already suggested a second banshee..... Quote
shee4speed Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 (edited) I have the same wife bike. Take a look at the choke system,Kind of a goofy cable system. Ours did the same stuff and that fixed it. Good Luck! Edited October 8, 2007 by shee4speed Quote
slowpokebanshee Posted October 8, 2007 Author Report Posted October 8, 2007 gonna check it out tomorrow, but it seems to work, when its cold starts right up w/choke, but no verification it is turning off.....thanks for the tip, any other ideas......we are leaving thrursday night... Quote
shee4speed Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 I'm thinking that will solve your problem. Theres possibly dirt or sand in there and not shutting off the choke all the way. Hopefully that works though. Quote
slowpokebanshee Posted October 9, 2007 Author Report Posted October 9, 2007 okay, took the carb apart for at least the fifth time, but this time took the choke apart cleaned it all and went back together, went to start it and it just cranked.....turned the choke on and it started, turned it off and it died.....(before tear down was barely noticeable on/off)so cranked up the idle screw a little and warmed it up seems good to go, shook the hell out of it and it did not stall.....I think we nailed it, will know for sure this weekend when we get a chance to ride at Glamis I'll give a full report. thanks for all the help......I knew I wasn't the only idiot that has a wife.....
