official_style Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 so i bought my 97 banshee, it has a yamaha certificate of origin from a dealer in freeport ny, which was signed to the owner i bought it from. i was planning on filling out the mv-82ton application to transfer the title to my name. however now i have been reading on here, and it seems that if i give in the cert of origin to the dmv, i cannot get another title, and they will only give me a registration, but no title. sounds like i am better off to just keep this cert of reg, which is signed over to me. is this still the case, or can i actually get a new title with my name on it. right now it seems better to just keep this title and F the dmv. any advice? fox_forma Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 I bought 2 banshees from NY both with just registration and never had any issues getting them switched over. The reg seems to act just like the title whenever I had issues with local law enforcement. I dont know if its just the shee's I bought from NY or what but I never got titles, just the reg card and never had issues. Maybe you can write out a bill of sale and notarize it and obtain a title that way? Quote
official_style Posted August 18, 2007 Author Report Posted August 18, 2007 i have a title now, the origin one, but if i turn it in to reg it then all i get is a reg right. do i really need to reg this bad boy? Quote

But like I said not sure how that works, never had issues before. What is making you register it and keep the title that you are worried about? Quote
official_style Posted August 19, 2007 Author Report Posted August 19, 2007 i was reading a post on here about someone from ny who registerd their banshee, and then once you do this you dont recive a title, just a transferable registration. the post was from 2004 tho, so i wanted to see if this was still the case. TurboBanshee420 Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 NY does NOT use titles on ATVs. the Registration IS the title. And you also have to have the previous owner give you the name of the last person the register it. Because NY needs to see proof of ownership transfered from the last person that register it. NY BLOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! go to the DMV and give them a reciept with the name of the last person to reg. and a scatching of the #'s off the frame. as well as your reg form and origin paper.... this will be enough. I had to go through the same bullshit when I registered my GASGAS. since noone had registered it before me and it was from out of state I had to do alot of fucking around before the bitch at the DMV would give up a reggy. Good Luck Quote
official_style Posted August 21, 2007 Author Report Posted August 21, 2007 mine has a new york cert of origin title thing, and has never been registered. im going to bring those dumb hoes at the dmv the mso, reg form frame scratch and bill of sale. that should do it i think. Quote
dogboystoy Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 I went through that crap. I Bought my ATV in ILLinois, it came with a certificate of origin, I moved to NY and registed it, I turned in my Cert of origin, and got this stupid card. No Title. Then I moved to PA and went to register it, and went through a little crap to get that done because i didnt have a title. If you can, KEEP your Cert of origin, that way you have some form of documentation, that card is easy to loose, it doesnt even look like much. NY registration sucks. Quote
