any truth to this

the ind. said that comp. like elka are real nice but they have sag which puts you closer to the ground which is bad for trails?

any help would be appreciated need some shocks for trails?

thanks

it all depends how you get the shocks sprung, a shock set up for trail riding will sit higher, the reason you hear the elkas sit lower is because if you get them set up with the ssd (self saging spring) the first spring is real light so it compresses under the weight of the bike so it rides lower but you stil have full shaft travel and the valving does the work, you can get elkas set up for trail riding without the ssd spring or dunes ar whatever you want. i dont think the works shocks are available with the ssd spring, or some compananies call them zero preload shocks because you can change the ride height without changing the spring rate

i'd still get the elka's. IMO would offer a better ride then works, but i dunno. don't ride a shee all that often

ya maybe elka dual rate might be better

elka only makes dual rate shocks for stock lenght applications, to get the tripple rates you have to get long shock a arms ( know as long travel ) i have laeger +2 long shock arms and elka tripple rates with the ssd spring

oh i understand.

so since my a arms require stocl length shocks i would get the dual rates. which is probably better for me because it will elimante some of the sag. also do the elka dual rates come with ssd or zero preload?

thanks

thats correct, with standard lenght shocks they only come with dual rate from elka, but you can get tripple rate standard length from works, if you dont want the sag and get elkas have them build them with a "live" first spring and not the ssd spring and they will not have the sag

the normal weekend warrior isn't going to notice the diff between works elka tcs axxis or whatever unless your racing in my opinion. i do think elka and stadiums are the best

ive always heard the opposite, that works is always a little on the soft side,, ,i got some AT steelers , triple rate with remote res's for around $600, they work awesome, soak up hard landing and ride like a cadillac on rough trails compared to stock, but like one of the guys said, the average rider doesnt really even need $1500 shocks, waste of money, for your average rider dong aggresive trail riding, with some jumping ect, any aftermarket shock with resivours will work awesome, especially because they will be valved and sprung for your weight, and that makes a huge difference, the only thing that stock front end is good for is scrap metal
