prokiller Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 I have a 95 banshee. It has new stator,coil,wires,plugs,cdi....and it seems to pop and fart when it decides to start and run. I doesnt always want to start every time though. The key switch was removed as well as the tors system(It was how I bought it). Right now, Im getting no spark at all...WTF???? Need some serious help here...Im totally stuck with this one. Maybe wire harness???? What do I check or look for. Thanks Frank Quote

Thanks Frank You need to get your self a Clymer manual with a wiring diagram and ger out the DVOM. Then you can start check for continuity between points in your wiring harness. Quote
BenBB Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 Did you replace the electricals or did you buy it that way? If you did it, are you sure the gap is set right on the pickup coil and that all connectors are tight? Harness is a maybe, you want to look for cuts, burns, etc. and also check for continuity from one end of the wire to the other (like orange between the CDI and coil connector, red, green, red/white, green/white from CDI to stator connector, etc.). Your CDI might be toast but typically they are go or no go; it won't try to run at all. I'd start with the connectors and then test for resistance on the stator, then have a shop bench test the coil just in case. From there you might check the FAQ below for everything else. Good luck. SandBlastin30 Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 If it turns out to be the stator, beware of the ricky stator. I replaced my bad oem stator with the ricky stator and it was junk. One time it took three kicks to start, the next 20 kicks. The next day got it started two times but didn't run good at all. Put my buddies oem stator in and the thing started and ran great. So if it is the stator buy oem. Just my 2 cents. Quote

Thanks Frank The way to find a problem if this nature is to verify good parts and check them off the list. If all major components are verified good, then you need to focus on harness pinches, grounding issues and such. The banshee system is very simple and you should be able to stop a wiring problem rather easy. If everything checks good, borrow a CDI and try it. The CDI can give symptoms such as this. the doug1789 Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 id check to make sure that the wires coming from your ignition are right. We had the same problem when we did an engine transfer .Turned out we double grounded the wires and thats why it wouldnt start Quote

prokiller Posted July 21, 2007 Author Report Posted July 21, 2007 thankyou very much for the info...you guyz are great. I ordered a new harness anyway. Ill install it, and see if thats the issue. If it makes any difference, the key switch was removed, (i bought it that way) I mean the coil, cdi, wires, plugs, stator, pickup are all brand new...still no spark....very odd. Im certain that there is a piece of the harness grounding out somewhere...Its intermitant....starts sometimes, but fats and pops, sometimes wont start at all.... quick question.....My bike is jetted with 195 mains....is this to lean for normal trail riding, and practice runs at my local track? Whats the proper jetting for that type of riding. It seemed to run really hot when it did run. I had 240 mains in it before this tech tried to fix it and burned me for $1200 playing a guessing game at what was wrong....hints.....All new parts I mentioned up top. Thanks again frank Quote

Thanks again frank GD, does that mean you would pay me 1200 to actually fix the problem?? Hell, I won't even put a harness in it! If you are sure of a harness issue, they generally lie around the steering stem. If you can flip the bars around and mimic the problem, you found it. Not sure if I have ever bought a new harness. Shame on you for taking the easy way:-) Quote
