bentvalve Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 i do not have the gasket so i went and got gasket material and made one.as soon as i get pressure the gasket lets loose. is there a trick, so kinda of sealer that will resist brake fluid? help i want rear brakes!!! don Quote
peak-j Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 I'd just wait until you can get the original style gasket. That would be best I think, maybe the brake fluid is eating at the gasket material. Not to sure but the stock gasket is probably more of a rubber type gasket. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 Gasket or no gasket you can still bleed the brakes so they work...they just will end up getting air in there with no gasket and you'll be bleeding them again real soon. I HIGHLY recommend going to your local auto parts store and picking up a "one man" bleeder or vacuum bleeder. It makes it so much easier and you can see when you're done (bubbles stop flowing). I just did this earlier in the week. Quote
bentvalve Posted July 14, 2007 Author Report Posted July 14, 2007 i have the nice bleeder, yes its awsome! i think the pro is that that seal or gasket is not sealing when it gets pressure. and i have good gasket material. maybe i should by some rubber like stuff? i did call yamaha and they have out and inner piston seals in stock, and they said thats what i need. we will see. should have just left the parking brake junk on it.lol don Quote
bigboybanshee Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 Oh so you have a leaking caliper? If that is the case, then yeah, you won't be able to bleed them until that's fixed. It shouldn't leak at all if you just removed the parking brake...there shouldn't be any fluid coming out from where the parking brake assembly attached to the caliper. Quote
bentvalve Posted July 14, 2007 Author Report Posted July 14, 2007 yeah, thats it. so the piston is leaking. cool. the guys at yamaha said there should not be any fluid there. so thats it... thanks for your input. don Quote
bentvalve Posted July 15, 2007 Author Report Posted July 15, 2007 yeah, thats it. so the piston is leaking. cool. the guys at yamaha said there should not be any fluid there. so thats it... thanks for your input. don well i get to yamaha and they said they had to sets of the seals. i get there and they did not have 1. well they ordered them for me. i will be passing them on to whom ever purchases my bike..don Quote
swrbansheeboy Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 yea, you need the rubber seal that goes on the piston. the paper gasket on the block off plate is basicly there to keep debris out of the back side of the piston... Quote
