Hello, everyone. I am switching from the junk stock filter to a Pro Design Pro Flow Uni filter. I am not making any changes to my airbox, so i am still running with lid. No changes other than filter element. Will the uni filter breathe more requiring a jetting change? Thanks for your help!

anytime you make any changes to your air intake set up you should double check your jetting. there's always the possibility of needing to adjust. do a plug chop after the install and go from there. getting rid of the stocker for a pro design is a great move bud. you won't regret it. :cool:

Do you have any other mods?

WHen my shee was stock, I installed a K&N pro flow set up and

removed the snorkel and I think I was still on the stock 220 mains

and my plugs looked good.

Do a plug chop after you get the filter installed.

Thanks, guys. My only other mod is DMC alien pipes, snorkel removed, and 3 of the foam snap in Uni 1 inch vents in the back of the airbox lid. Right now I have been running 280 mains, stock 25 pilot jet, airscrew 1.5 turns out, stock needle on the 3rd (middle) stock clip position.

just a question but why are you going to continue to run the airbox lid? It's a difference of like 3 main jets when you remove it and a great increase in power.

 

I've run the foam filter setup you are getting through some nasty terrain and only time I ever got anything in my intake was when I was in a water hole that went over the seat for a second. When I get my engine back together I'm going to be running an outerwear cover setup to prevent water even more.

 

When I oil my filter I spray oil on my hands and rub a thin coat of it over the outer filter. In dirty conditions it tends to attract dirt to the outer filter a little bit, but water just beads off of it.

 

 

As far as rejetting goes with the airbox lid on, I run 310-330 with the lid off (310 in the summer), so I'm guessing you should be right on with the 280's still, but you might have to go to 290, do a plug check and you should be good.

 

You might want to try putting 27.5 pilots in and see if you get a little better response in the lower rpm range when the powerband is starting to come on. If you got the money I'd get some vforce's and if you're on a budget for now I'd get some boyeson dual stage epoxy reeds. They'll improve your throttle response drastically.

 

Think about opening that airbox lid up though.....its worth the power, and that filter can take some punishment.

Thanks for the suggestions! I am thinking about trying some 27.5 pilot jets, just have to figure out where to order them from. I also have a little bit of the dreaded "dead spot" right before the powerband. Its just a small break up/blubbering but it cannot be adjusted out by changing the needle clip position. From what i hear, it requires aftermarket needles to get rid of this and make it go into the powerband smooth/crisp. I need to figure out where to get the corrrect aftermarket needles for it too. I will eventually be getting Vforce reeds. I know that i could remove the airbox lid all together, but riding in the mud, mountains, and washing my bike to get the majority of crap off before bringing it home i just feel better leaving the lid on.
