okbeast Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 Got a little happy with the grinder and cut a whole in my subframe, where the huge stock exhaust mounts were. Get to do a little fabbin up tonight. I'm just gonna notch the hole out and cut a piece to fit in off some old handlebars, weld it in, grind it off and it'll be good as new. I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow. Quote
okbeast Posted June 27, 2007 Author Report Posted June 27, 2007 Well I pretty much had it how I wanted but had a few more places I wanted to fill and grind off and ended up burning through a thin spot. So last night I spent 2 hours filling and grinding and still am not satisfied. Anyone got any tips on what to use here, im needing a low-amp, low-slag rod b/c I'm getting alot of slag cavities and it's startin to piss me off. Quote
RZBansheeMan Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 You would probabaly be way better off if you could find a mig welder. Quote
racer Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 You would probabaly be way better off if you could find a mig welder. uh huh. Quote
okbeast Posted June 27, 2007 Author Report Posted June 27, 2007 Yaes, I know, dont have one though...any options for an arc welder? Quote
RZBansheeMan Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 I don't know how familiar you are with welding or welders, but some of the arc welders could be set up for TIG and that would be way better off than arc. I would not arc it. No offense to you guys out there that swear by arc welders but from my experience working in fab shops, arc welders are for "pipe welders" and " farmers". Not sheet metal or thin walled tubing. :yelrotflmao: I would do my best to try and locate some friends, relatives, or somebody, even if you had to do a little ass kissin', who has a mig welder. Quote
Flash and Flare Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 MIG welding still uses a "arc" to weld so telling him to get a MIG vs arc welding is redundant. MIG is GMAW and Stick welding is SMAW and TIG is GTAW But, I concur that using a MIG would be better suited for the welding your doing. If you never TIG welded I would stay away from using that unless your paying someone to do it for you. It tends to need the most talent. F&F Quote
okbeast Posted June 28, 2007 Author Report Posted June 28, 2007 Gonna go work on it some more tonight and see what I can do. Worse comes to worse it'll go to a welder to lay down some rows and then I'll grind it off where I want it. Quote
